    I recently purchased a dozen "new, in box", Pro V1 golf balls on ebay. When they arrived, they have Pro V1 - 392 on the side and the box is different (similar to previous Titleist boxes in 2006 or so). I'm trying to find out how old these "new balls" really are.  Any help out there.

    Received the following response from Titleist.  Beware of "new in box sales" on ebay or other sites:

    What year are Pro V1 balls that have ''Pro V1 - 392'' imprinted on the
    side? How old are these balls?Thanks

    ANSWER:
    Thank you for your question regarding Titleist golf balls. Below is a list
    of side-stamps that would designate the order-of-release starting with the
    original version:

    PRO V1 392 ... 2000 - January 2001
    < PRO V1 . 392 > ... February 2001 - January 2003
    < . PRO V1 392 . > ... February 2003 - January 2005
    < PRO V1 - 392 > ... February 2005 - January 2007
    <----- Pro V1 -----> ... February 2007 - January 2009
    < . ----- Pro V1 ----- . > ... February 2009 - present

    We also released the Pro V1 Star and X which have the following
    side-stamps in the order-of-release:

    < Pro V1 * 392 > ... February 2001 - January 2003
    < . Pro V1x 332 . > ... February 2003 - January 2005
    < Pro V1x - 332 > ... February 2005 - January 2007
    <----- Pro V1x ------> February 2007 - January 2009

    No they are not the same ball the 392 is a little harder then the pro1 itself. I will play the 392s but I see a big deference in the two balls.

    I like the photo attached which shows the various arrow markings on each generation of ball.  I note it goes only up to 2009.  Can anyone update it to show all models up to date?

    I have prov1s in separated boxes back to 2006 and they go as good as I can hit them and I've turned out good rounds.  After saying that, in tournaments I break out a fresh new prov1 because in my mind I want the best I can get!!!

    I still have several dozen of the Professional 100's, and they still fly very well. Within a few yards, I'd say, and they are 20+ years old. I break one out occasionally, whenever the question pops up......

    In addition to the eight shown here, there are there more: 2015, 2017, and 2019. That makes eleven versions so far. (I don't have a current ProV1, so I substituted a ProV1x.)

    Can anyone from Titleist or someone with expertise comment on how the performance characteristics have changed over the years? Softness/hardness/compression, spin rate with driver/woods vs wedges/short irons, etc. Marketing always claims the latest models are "better" but I have only read about claims of "more consistent performance" and "more durable cover".

    I found one of the "392" balls in pristine condition by a cart path last week and decided to hit it for a few holes. I would say it has a firmer feel than contemporary V1 and V1x balls, but very close in distance when the ball is hit solid. It felt surprisingly good and neither too mushy or like a rock. Since I made a birdie with it, I think I'll put it in my golf ball Hall of Fame...:)

    I prefer the 392's. The Pro V1's from 2003-2005 are the best balls I have ever used. They felt great and were practically indestructible (a urethane ball that didn't scuff).

    I switched to cally balls in 2008 and remained a cally user until 2019. I just switched back to Titleist (Pro V1's-- definitely prefer the Made In USA ones). I am kicking myself for not switching back sooner.

    I actually loved the packaging on the 2001-2005 Pro v1's (the light orangish color on the silver box). This may sound weird, but seeing the light (or sun) reflect off that peachish-orange and silver box looked awesome. Coolest looking box ever. I used to (and still do) buy balls from a Golf Etc about 45 minutes from me (closest retailer to me). the owner lets me buy a dozen balls ina single number (all 3's for me).
