The page for the AP2 716 says "Fast through the turf with less dig from the slightly wider sole with trailing edge relief"

Does anyone know if the AP2 716 has a "pre-worn" leading edge like the 714 AP2?

I've though all the AP2 lines were great, but for me, I thought the turf interaction was best with the 714, mostly because of the leading edge.

Also, are there bounce specs anywhere for the 716 line? I didn't see them.

    Thanks

Hi Chris,  There will be a preworn leading edge on the new 716 AP2's and we have added it to the entire lineup this year due to great feedback.

Thanks for the quick response Cathi!

Is there any rationale behind not posting the bounce specs for the new irons?

    thanks

Hi Chris,  The bounce is not included in the specs any longer because it is not as relevant a spec for the modern sole design.  It is only one specification of the design and given alone, it does not indicate how the sole will play.

Hey Cathi, can you tell me if the lofts were strengthened from the 714s?

The lofts are the same for the 716 AP 2, 716 CB and 716 MB's. The AP2 and the CB irons are achieving more distance and forgiveness from the use and placement of the tungsten co-forged along the perimeter of the blade. The addition of the multi material technology of the AP2 irons into the new CB's will give the new CB irons more speed across the entire face as well as more forgiveness.

The only lofts that were changed are the lofts for the AP1 irons.  The new 716 AP1 irons will be the most forgiving and the longest iron that we have ever designed.  Although we did strengthen the lofts on those irons, you can't just strengthen lofts and get the ball in the air.  What our engineers have done is dramatically increase the tungsten (50%), create a new thin fast face and combined that with the lower loft.  That way you also get forgiveness on off-center hits as well as speed and height to get more carry distance.

Cathi, what are the modern, relevant specs for modern sole designs and for determining how an iron sole will play? Surely, bounce, sole width, grinds, and centers of gravity are all very important, relevant specs. If there are other relevant specs, why not post all of those and what are those?

This is great information.  Very interested in getting the 716s based on all of the information released.

I agree with Chris M, having owned each series of the AP2 irons prior to the 714's I found myself going back to the originals. After hitting the 714 AP2's at the TT Invitational at Wolf Dancer I was sold. They came through the turf so easy. My 4i, which was a club I hated has become one of my best friends. Looking forward to hitting the 716's this weekend. See ya in the fairways
