#3 at White Bear Yacht Club

A buddy of mine is a member at White Bear Yacht Club just outside of the Twin Cities in Minnesota, so fortunately I get to play there fairly often. It was still pretty early in the season, but the grounds crew at White Bear is truly second to none, and the course was already in fantastic condition. The course is an old Donald Ross design, so the first is a hilly par 4 with an elevated green. I hit my second shot to about 15 feet and two putted for my par. We were off to the races. Hole 2 is another hilly par 4, and after a great drive, I left my approach just short of the false front that the pin was tucked on. I had a great lie for the chip, and it was an uphill straight forward chip, so I felt pretty comfortable. Walked up and chipped it in for the birdie. My foursome is all buddies of mine, and we're younger, so the *** talking was flying. Walked off -1 through 2, so I'm feeling good. The 3rd is a short par 4 where you cannot go left. I have a laser range finder and had it gunned in at 122, so I grabbed my 53*. Having honors (as I liked to remind them), I walked up first and lined it up. This hole has always been pretty good to me, as it should...just don't look at the trouble and hit an easy wedge. I hit it and it started on a great line. It takes one hop and disappears. My buddy turns to me and is like "I think it went it!" The sun was in our face, so I couldn't really tell. I pulled out my rangefinder to see if I could spot the ball, but I couldn't see it. We all started to freak out, and high five and all of that. I've come close to getting an ace a bunch of times now, and a few of them have been by myself, which would be great, but still...having my buddies there to witness it really sealed the deal! One of the guys doesn't drink, so it wasn't too expensive once we got to the clubhouse, but we did drink some top shelf scotch while we watched the masters. All in all, it was a pretty fantastic day!
