I've been playing my best golf this summer, and hadn't yet played with my father this year. So, we finally made a tee time together at my home course that I grew up playing and where I first got lessons -- Cassel Hills Golf Course in Vandalia, Ohio. When I was younger, that course beat me up over and over, so I was out to exact revenge. Well, things weren't really going my way, and the old man was beating me by a few strokes going into the final stretch. Number 16 is the last par 3 on the course. From the blues that day, it was about 135, straight uphill. You could see the top of the flag, but not the putting surface at all. I grab my 7 iron and let it rip. I hit it pretty well, but pulled it slightly left.... BUT, it took a very favorable bounce off what I think was the edge of an old bunker. Everybody else tees off and we drive up the hill. I see one on the back of the green in the general direction of where my ball bounced, but when I saw it wasn't mine, I looked around and didn't see anything. So, like I had dozens of times before, I go to check the hole (mostly sarcastically), and there it was. A Titleist NXT Tour S (given to me by Dad). And, for the record, I ended up beating my father by one stroke as I kept my composure over the last two holes (somehow). Unfortunately, my hole in one streak ended during my next round. Here's to chasing the next one!
