First Round Back
By Ron E On January 26, 2021
I sustained a major back injury playing with my grandson on January 3rd. This was my first round back. I pre-planned to just "take it easy" and not be driven by the score, just to play for fun. I was playing fairly well when we got to the turn. I lost my scorecard so my partners all teed off before me. The #10 hole at Santa Barbara Golf Club ("Muni") plays long. It was a blue flag, about 137 yards. I played an 8 iron, taking an extra club thinking I would swing "easy" to protect my back. I hit a baby cut. There's a bunker to the right of the green and it forms a mound at the right fringe. I hit it right over the fringe. As I was walking up the fairway, I said to one of my golf partners, "I sure would be great if we didn't see my ball on the green" - saying that knowing that I hit it well enough that it should be close. When I got to the green I checked all the balls and didn't see mine; went to the hole and there it was . . . "It's in the hole!!!"
