"I'm Going To Disney World"

"I'm Going To Disney World"

My first hole-in-one at 64 was truly memorable. After a lifetime of golf with my dad, brother and friends, February 18th was my lucky day. The stage was set with my regular large Thursday group, the "Flounders" at the Barefoot Golf and Resort Club Dye Course here in Myrtle Beach, SC. The day had been unremarkable to that point although my partner, Bob Clarke, and I had been scoring steady points in a Stableford format. I used a seven iron when leading off the 15th hole. It was hit a little thin but still managed to hop up on the 165 yard par 3 with an elevated green. My buddy, Bob Clarke, calmly sweet talked to it as it rolled toward the hole, "Let it go in." And then it disappeared into the cup. What makes this so memorable is what happened after. As is the tradition when one gets an ace, I went into the clubhouse and placed my credit card on the bar and told all there to have a drink on me. Mind you, this is a large group, over a hundred men and ladies. However they were kind to me and my bar tab was only around $130. Worth every penny! My partner and I won our flight with the extra points from my ace for $10. And I knew I'd get a greenie for $5. for that hole and lastly a skin for that hole also worth another $30 or so. What I did not expect was announced by John Hasenstab, our group leader, mine was the only skin that stood up that day worth another $184! Lastly, as my luck would have it, I was leaving the next day for a pre-planned trip with my wife and grandchildren to, you guessed it, Disney World! Can't think of a better way to celebrate.
