  1. Hi will one of the Titleist staff please advise on the following.

    1. What are the swingweights achievable with the 910 D2 using the ilima 61 regular at 45 inches length.

    2. Looking at the shaft comparision chart where approximately would the ilima 61 R be  in terms of launch and spin if tipped one inch?

    Thanks Chris

  2. Hi Chris -

At 45" the following swingweights are achievable...

If you are looking at the shaft comparison chart you will notice that all the shafts listed in blue print indicate performance of a tipped shaft at 1".  The ilima will launch lower with less spin than the stock ilima.

  3. Hi Nick, I think you missed the fact that I'm asking about the regular. flex

I know it will be  lower flight just trying to get some appreciation of where on the chart it would sit.

I've seen that swingweight progression for the Kaili  the lighter ilima  plays the same swingweights not  say Do at 5 gram?

    Thanks Chris

  4. Hi Chris -

The shaft comparison chart should only be used a reference guide.  The placements of the shafts are by no means an exact replica of where a shaft would be plotted in a chart.  It is only used as a helpful guide to see what shafts are similar and what shafts typically have higher flight with more spin.

Using this chart you should be able to identify the general area of a 1" tipped regular flex shaft by using the placement of the stock stiff and the tipped stiff as a reference.

  5. Nick,   I know its not exact  all I wanted was to be able to approximate the effect so as to be able to consider it as an optio in my fitting.

    Thanks  for your help Chis

    Chris,

I think Nick did an excellent job in answering you question - the real answer will come in how it affects your ball flight.  This should be measured on a launch monitor while hitting Pro V's outdoors.  I would ask Nick how the  Kai"li 75 would compare to the Illima tipped 1".  Of if that is not a good comparison maybe he could suggest a better one that would be in the Titleist fitting cart. If he suggests one that is comparable you can use that for the above mentioned test.

Remember the only true test would be outdoors with Pro V golf balls and a LM.  You may want to get on Titleist.com and find an Advanced Fitter in your area. Also, ALWAYS remember this -- the head of the golf club ( loft, lie, face angle, CG location...) will have a much greater affect on ball flight than the shaft.

PS- Titleist player testing from years ago showed no difference in ball flight from swing weights. It is much more a player preference than a variable that will change ball flgiht.

  7. Steve thanks,

I understand you point about swingweight  I just thought there would be a table available at least for the stock shafts at each weight flex at standard length. Also your point about  the shaft. I have hit the  D2 club outside with the Kali 65 regular and the ilima 61 regular with the same loft and lie settings. What I saw was a significant  difference in trajectory. Thi ilima launching much higher.

I was able to dial in the ilima pretty good by removing loft and maintaing the lie angle. Also I was able to make the club efforless to hit by playing around with the head weight ( swingweight) The only thing I was left looking at was would it be better with ilima tipped and more loft than wht I've got to now ( c3).

What is probably not appreciated on your side of the pond ( I'm in England) is that many of the places with fitting carts don't build clubs so they don't have swingweight scales and  many don't have decent lauch monitors like trackman.  Tipping without a decent reference is an expensive way for me to go so I'm going to stick with where I've got to right now.

The other point I wish Titleist would take on board is that they have a market leading club here that will appeal to a much wider range of golfers than they have previously experienced. This wider range will need some material focussed on them particularly those with more modest swingspeeds.  So producing a decent realtions ship map for regular flex shafts is really a marketing assest in their interest.

    Regards Chris
