2019 Pro V1 Golf Ball Fitting Setup

    Hey Team Titleist,

Our golf ball fitting teams have kept the accelerator down and continued their travels on the road fitting golfers into the new 2019 Pro V1 and Pro V1x golf balls as we get closer to the official launch. The other week one of our expert fitters, Luke Staudt, shared some fitting success stories from the road (read those here) and he’s back again with another update.

Check out the latest highlights below and don’t forget to share your fitting stories (or questions) by adding a comment!

Suzy B. most commonly plays Pro V1.  Short game control serves as the foundation of why she makes this choice.  “When I hit a 25 to 30 yard shot, I like to see it check up.  I have confidence it (Pro V1) is going to stop.”  On approach shots, Suzy mentioned that she occasionally sees her ball roll out longer than ideal on the green.  Upon trying Pro V1x in this setting, we witnessed steeper land angles - which will lead to improved stopping power on approach shots.  Suzy was glad to learn of this development, especially coupled with the fact that Pro V1x offers the same Drop-and-Stop greenside control as Pro V1.

Steve D. is currently playing a competitor’s premium golf ball.  This has been somewhat of a test to see if this gives him improved results in terms of driver distance or control on approach shots.  Steve, however, is no stranger to Titleist and has played both Pro V1 and Pro V1x in the past - ultimately finding success with these golf balls.  “I always feel like I’m going to play better when I have Pro V1 or Pro V1x in hand.”  When looking at flight conditions with a 7-iron, we found that Steve would benefit from the higher flight and added iron spin of Pro V1x.  Additionally, the improvements built into the 2019 model align with what Steve seeks - especially in the long game.

Al M. rotates between Pro V1 and Pro V1x.  In the past, he preferred Pro V1x – due to the fact that it offered lower long game spin in the 2015 model.  He was eager, though, to settle on one particular golf ball.  Upon going through the fitting, it became apparent that Pro V1 was the best match for Al’s high ball flight, in terms of both trajectory and iron distance.  Al was pleased to walk away from this experience with confirmation of the ball that will help him achieve optimal performance.

Dan L. experiments with a number of different premium golf balls in the market.  When doing so, he notices some marginal differences in terms of driver distance.  On the other hand, though, performance on scoring shots has consistently had a clear leader.  “When I am 100 or 150 yards out, Pro V1 is the best ball.  That’s where the money is made.”  Dan naturally has a penetrating ball flight with his irons, which – coupled with firm green conditions – makes it challenging to achieve control on these shots.  We found that Pro V1x offered the added spin and height that would help Dan to be better rewarded on these shots.

Joe D. has been loyal to the Pro V1 franchise since its inception in 2000, as this “is the only ball I’ve ever used” during this span.  However, Joe did not have certainty surrounding whether Pro V1 or Pro V1x would be the best fit for his game.  Pro V1’s penetrating flight and slightly softer feel was a winning combination for Joe.  In addition, he was pleased to learn of the improvements that are built into the 2019 model.

Can anyone shed any light on what will be new/improved with the Pro V1 and Pro V1X for 2019?
