After playing golf in the prairies for many years where it is dry & hard, I moved to the wet (West) coast, where the conditions are very rarely hard, in fact at best they get firm in mid summer.  In the past year I have struggled with wedges due to the soft conditions; a little fat in dry conditions will result in a longer put, but in wet conditions you won't even reach the green.

I play Vokeys, a 50, 54, & 58, all with 8 degrees of bounce.  I am curious what is recommended in this condition, and if 14 degrees is too much bounce for firm but not hard conditions in the summer.  As a final note, if I have my 50 bent, how much can they bend it as it is a cast club, and is the additional degree of loft a 1 to 1 ratio with the additional bounce created?  My thought being to bend the 50 to 54, and the 54 to 57, both changes should get the bounce to approx 12 degrees, and purchase a new 50 with approx 10 degrees.

    Frank,

Our recommendation in the soft conditions would be to go with higher bounces in your wedges.  This will help reduce digging into the softer turf by having the leading edge sit up slightly off the ground.

In regards to bending, this is all dependant on the finish that has been applied to the club.  In our current line up, Black Nickel and Tour Chrome can be bent +/- 1*.  The Oil Can, which is actually a raw finish has the ability to be bent +/-2*.  You are correct in saying if you move the club 1* weaker, you will add 1* of bounce.  The same would hold true if you reverse it, 1* stronger and you will take 1* of bounce off.  Currently our 50* wedge is only available with 8* of bounce.

If you wish to have your clubs adjusted, please contact your local authorized Titleist dealer to set up a return authorization to have our club team bend the clubs for you.

Thanks Ryan, I was afraid of that, and the wedges are tour chrome so the 1* is not sufficient.  I think I will add a 56.14 as a utility type club to allow me to remove the 58.08 in the wet months and potentially a 52.14 if available.

Is there thoughts of a forged wedge in the future?
