I know I should get custom fit, but unfortunately I do not have a fitting facility that carries the 910D2 within a reasonable distance. I currently hit the Titleist 909D2 (9.5 degrees with stock diamana blue 65 gram stiff flex). I recently went to our local dicks sporting goods to get fitted for a R11. I ended up trading my 909D2 for a R11, but returned it within the month. The club never felt good on the golf course and I will never buy anything but a titleist again. I am going to order a 910D2 in a few days and need shaft recommendations. On the launch monitor with my 909D2 I was carrying the ball an average of 275 yards. My swing speed was between 105-110 mph, spin rate of 3200, and launch angle of 14.5 degrees. These numbers were very consistent through the 20 or so golf balls I hit with my driver. I played college golf for 4 years, but now only play for recreation. My swing is pretty good and consistent for the most part. My natural ball flight is a 5-10 yard draw. I will definitely be getting a 910D2 with 8.5 degrees of loft but I need help choosing a shaft. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Justin,

Your launch monitor numbers look pretty good with your 909, but we could work on getting that spin down a bit.  Since you said you are going to an 8.5 in the 910, that should lower it a bit.  I would still recommend you try the Diamana Kai'li 65 stiff for a baseline in the 910 and the Diamana Ahina 72 stiff to help bring the spin down a little more.

I found a couple facilities, not really close, but within 40 miles of you.  One happens to be one of our Regional Fitting Centers and would be a great facility to get fit at for your 910.  The other may be a little closer to you and also has a launch monitor to assist in the fitting (see below).

Thanks Cameron I really appreciate the advice. However I am from Indiana, not Texas, so those options don't really relate to me. The R11 I was hitting was a 9 degree (8 degree with the lower launch setting), but had the 60 gram blur stiff shaft and my spin rate was still around 3000-3500. I am leaning towards the ahina after a little research, but I am not 100% sure. Thanks again for your time and help.

  4. I really like the Aldila RIP 65. More than fair distance, penetrating ball flight and lots of control. Although, I would go for the 9.5 degree loft with this shaft.

Justin,  how would you describe your tempo?  As you can imagine it is tough to do this on line, but give me some tempo info on your swing and I will give you a few rec's.  Is it like Nick Price - really quick from the top or more of a smooth transition from the top?

Thank you for the replies and I understand how difficult this is to do online. I have been fit for my AP2 irons and it made a huge difference in my game. I would definitely get custom fit but it is very difficult to find a location and time to complete the process. If I had to describe my tempo I would have to say it is fairly smooth rather than quick from the top. Thanks for the help!

  7. Hi guys! Sorry for asking in the same thread, but there seem to be a lot of the same ones...

I'm also looking at buying a 910D2 in the next week. I've been trying out the Diamana Kai'Li 65 in regular and stiff options on the simulator indoors, but I'm still unsure. I wouldn't call my swing super consistent, as my swing speed varies from 95-105+mph. Both feel similar, but it feels like the regular flex is more responsive on impact. Maybe its because I currently use a regular shaft.

Any suggestions that could help me with my decision? I wouldn't like buying the wrong shaft

  8. Okay so I did my club fitting at the Gary Player Experience in Woodmead RSA, and wow what an experience! Hitting the club on the range just makes such a huge difference! They set me up with the Kai'li 65 Stiff. Because I'm still young and in that in-between range (95-105mph.) I'll still swing faster and more consistent... Maybe that can help someone else looking for the same info :)

    Ricardo,

You are on the boarder of having a club head speed that would recommend regular or stiff.  A difference in 10 mph in club head speed is a lot, so I would say to use the swings that are most controlled to determine the right flex.  If your tempo seems too quick at 105 mph, then try slowing it down and using a regular flex.  If it seems smooth when you are swinging above 100 mph, then a stiff flex should work out fine for you.  Your club head speed + tempo will be the deciding factors in choosing the right shaft flex.

    Hope this helps!
