Need help with D2 shaft!

    I recently invested in a 910 D2 (9.5 degree) with a Diamana 'ahina 72 stiff shaff. Unfortunately, it just hasn't panned out. My drives are consistently very low and short (basically line drives). I took the driver to a Golfsmith store to discuss potential changes for my shaft - the individual I spoke to did not help at all. At this point I think I need to reconsider my choice for a stiff shaft. My swing speed is 95-96 on average, and my miss is usually a strong fade. I currently have TT S300 shafts in my AP2s and absolutely love them if this is any help at all. I would like to schedule an appointment with a Titleist fitter, but the closest location is out of the state.

    Thank you for the swift response, it is greatly appreciated. Is Mr. Kline at the Sittler Golf Center? If so, is the Center equipped with an outdoor launch monitor? Really hoping to find some new options - my driver is the only thing holding back my game right now.

    JT - I have the same driver and swing speed, so maybe my shaft info will help you, although I tend to hit a high ball vice line drives. My 910 D2 9.5 has a Kai'li 65 regular flex shaft, and I have it set on A4 (+1.5 degrees loft (which also closes the face a bit, helping to fight the fade) and standard lie angle). I got fit for it on a launch monitor after I had it to tweak the setting - here are my numbers: - avg club speed: 95.12 - avg ball velocity: 135.7 - avg launch angle: 18.1 - avg spin: 2230 - avg carry: 225.2 - avg total: 248.8 - avg deviation: 6.8 I am hittting this club straighter and longer (by about 10 yards) than I have ever hit a driver.     Question are you lefty? I thought A4 is Higher Open fade? B4 would be closed draw correct?

    Mikey - No, I'm a righty. When I originally got fit for my 910 D2 (with my pro using the fitting cart at our range, without a launch monitor) he had me hit several different shafts without telling me what they were - essentially a "blind" fitting. Based on that session, I ordered the 910 D2 9.5 Kai'li 65 regular flex shaft set on B3 (one of the things we were trying to do with the fitting was take away my bad misses where I lose the ball way right). After I got the driver, I wasn't hitting it great initially, and tried it on several different settings, with varying results (I think I was just confusing myself due to inconsistency). Then I went to Golf Galaxy and paid for a fitting using the launch monitor. I hit my driver set on A1, then C3, then B3, then A4, then back to B3, and finally back to A4. I got my best results (greatest distance - by a few yards, and smallest deviation - by a couple yards) with it set on A4. The A4 setting is +1.5 degrees loft (so I essentially have an 11 degree driver) and standard lie angle (58.8 degrees). My understanding is that when you add loft to the D2 driver (by moving up the chart) you are also closing the face angle (I think where I have it set it is 0.5 degrees closed, vice 0.5 degree open if it was on the A1 setting). That's what I meant when I said I think my setting is helping me fight the fade. I guess I did not also need to increase the lie angle, which would further increase draw/decrease fade. I have been playing my driver on the A4 setting for a few weeks now, and am driving the ball better than ever. The increased confidence I have is key! Hope this helps. Maybe Cathi can confirm that what I think about the relationship between loft and face angle is correct. Elmer

    Yes, you are correct.  When you increase the loft, you do close the face so your A4 setting is 1.5° closed and standard lie angle.  When you look at the arrows that say more fade and more draw, it is in relation to the square next to it.  For example, all things being equal, if  you were on a robot,  A4 would tend to be more fade biased than B3, but that does not mean you cannot draw it from that setting.

    I'm confused. The Matrix does not indicate you get more fade or draw by changing the loft, it indicates that this is the case if you change the lie angle. Why would changing the loft (vertical face angle) change the club face open or closed position?

    Soo what is your flight direction with this setting now @ A1? I tryng to get my setting dialed in as well.

    Our swing speeds are about the same.  The shaft you are using did the same thing to me on the Launch Monitor.  I went for the Diamana Kai'il Stiff flex.  My Drives have a higher penetrating flight with better carry and roll.  This maybe a good starting point as you sort this out.

    Elmer & Jeff, thank you both for your input. I would love to be able to try and test both of these shafts, but the closest fitter is more than 2 hours away. Cathi, any word on whether Sittler Golf Center does have an outdoor launch monitor? I would consider making the trek as long as they have the ability to fit me outside. Cheers!
