  1. I am looking at buying the new sm4 wedges when they come out. I am 17 and about a 6 handicap. I hit my pw about 135 now and am probably going to buy a 48 deg vokey to replace that. I am wondering what would be recommended to fill the rest of my bag. I am looking at 2 more wedges after the 48. What would anyone recommend for loft, bounce etc.?

    Curtis,

Replacing your PW with a 48* Vokey has been a popular idea, but make sure your PW loft is consistent (AP1-45*, AP2/CB/MB-47*) with the 48*.  You want to make sure you are filling gaps of 10-15 yards between wedges, which can be close to 4-6* between gaps.  The number of wedges you add to your set and at what lofts, will be determined by how good of a wedge player you are.  There are a few factors that can help determine the right bounce for each wedge as well.  With all this in mind, it is best to get properly fit for your Vokeys.

Where are you located (zip code)?  I can suggest a Fitter in your area that would help get you the right wedges for your game.

  3. I live in PEI, Canada so there isnt much for club fitting although the local club, Belvedere does some fitting, but not to the same extent as other fitters would. I am a pretty good wedge player who is comfortable hitting half and 3/4 shots on approaches. I can sweep the grass or take a divot if needed.

I hit my current 56* (cleveland cg10) about 105 so that 30 yard gap fron pw to 56* really bothaers me at times. My 60* (also cleveland cg10) is a high bounce and i really dont like hitting it off the fairway, so everything inside 100 in the fairway is hit with my 56*.

I want 2 wedges after the 48* that are comfortable to hit in the fairway and out of the rough. I want the higher loft to be good for my bunker shots as well.

Im trying to get a good idea without having to be fitted as to what would suit me as I can order clubs through the golf course that we are part of the ownership family of. This course doesnt do fittings. I was thinking a set of 48*, 54*(mid bounce), 58* (mid/high bounce).

    Thanks for your help/comments,

    Curtis

If this helps here is what I did.

    48 Vokey bent to 47

    50 Vokey bent to 51

    54 Vokey bent to 55

    58 Vokey bent to 59.

I see you only want to add 2 after the PW so I would think your are on the correct track of 54 / 58 or the option 52 / 60 that I have read is another popular option to fill the gaps.

For me the issues are do you play short game shots with different wedges or do you like to play most / all with the 60?

You came to a good place to ask your question and will receive good info.

    Cheers,

    Bryan

  5. I like to play most shots from bunkers/ rough with the same club. I like loft with those shots so 58* or 60* would be used on those. As for approach shots from the fairway, i just hit what feels right when i stand over the ball. Most fairway shots now are with my 56* but that is mainly because my 60* is high bounce and feels bad off thefairway.

On another note, will the sm4 wedges spin more or less (in general) than the current C of C wedges?

    Thanks for your help,

    Curtis
