    Hi,

I am at hcp 18 playing a set of AP2 710 , 2 degree upright, 1" longer for several months now but I am wondering about how to lower my ball flight especially in stronger winds the additional "hang time" is causing trouble. My swing speed with 6i is 92 miles and I am hitting it around 155 yards.

Currently I have Project X 5.0 installed and as the clubs are coming from Titleist like that, the swing weight is still D2. What determines whether the ball flies higher or lower in general? I am wondering about a stiffer shaft but also heard that Project X are said to balloon a little bit. I have already tried KBS Tour in Stiff and Project X 5.5 flighted but both didnt help lowering the ball flight.

    Any feedback?

    Thanks,

    Thomas

So you found out the hard way that shafts have very little affect on ball flight!  ;)

The adjustment you should try is delofting your irons at least 2 degrees and test the results on a launch monitor.   Loft at impact is by far the most significant factor involving launch...without changing your swing.

If you don't have access to a monitor, you could find a place on the practice tee with no wind, or a constant headwind and see how your eye likes the flight.  It's not as precise because you can't quantify the yardage change, but you'll get an idea of any change.

    Thomas,

As far as just lowering your ball flight with just your swing, just try and keep a forward shaft lean at impact and swing a little slower like around 80%. Swinging slower will reduce how much back spin you put on the ball and thus reduce the amount of climb the ball has. But to lower the ball flight on full shots you will want to change your shafts. The shafts you mentioned you tried out are all shafts that are designed to increase you spin rate and thus cause the ball flight to be much higher. True Temper Dynamic Gold shafts are more inclined to lower your spin rate and ball flight. Also, heavier shafts help to reduce your spin and to decrease you loft at impact. Hope this helps you out, anymore questions feel free to ask.

Just put the ball position a little more back in your stance and finish with a lower follow through

There is some good advice above me. its all about ball position. I wouldnt deloft your clubs 2 degrees. if your swing is the same you wont notice much diffrence other than a few more yards a club. but thats only couse your changing your 6I to be a 5i and a half. best fix is find an instructor adress your concernse about your game. let him have a look at your swing and ball flight. He will give you the best advice. Shafts DO affect ball flight but only to a degree. I used to have what sound like the same problem. a steep approch on the swing creating aloot of spin. its not always bad thow. Positives are you can attack more pins couse you probably dont get alot of roll. short pins tucked be hind bunkers are easyer for you. But if your serious about changing that ball flight go see a PGA tour Pro the'll Streighten your out. Good luck after the snow melts.
