  1. Hi  I need some advice. I've sorted out my driver 910 d2 with 'ilima 61R .I've started looking at the 910F at 17 deg  and have tried the 'ilima 71 reg as a starting point. ( Based on what RC said about a starting point)  Its not bad at all but it doesn't feel quite as solid as  I'd like

So the options for me would be to try the Kai'li  75 reg mid bend point. which is my next step.

However I'm wondering if tipping either the 'ilima 71 reg  playing or playing the Kai'li 75 reg  at say 1/2 inch less tip trim be worth considering?

    thanks Chris

Might be worth considering.  Problem is...that fit isn't usually around to test.  There are plenty of players in our stable that have a Kaili Driver then Ahina fairway.  So, an 'illima driver and a Kai'li fairway shouldn't be out side the norm.

  3. Hi Ryan, thanks  So you have something for the other end of the spectrum,

I tried the Kai'li 75 Reg today against the  'ilima 71 Reg in the 17 deg 910F > For me the optimum setting with either shaft was B2.

I found that the mid bend Kai'li at the slightly heavier weight uplayed more consistently with much better feel than the 'ilima  So your experience seems to be what will  work out best for many. For me it worked best again with lower swingweight using a 5 gram weight instead of the 7. I did the comparision with 43 inch shafts as that was what was available.

So one other question, as the 17degree is built at 42.5 inches can you or someone from Titleist  please confirm how much tip trim ( if any) is used on the 17 deg fairway build and how much real difference would it  be expected to make to ball flight?

    Thanks Chris

I'm pretty sure they butt trim the fairways to length.  Cathi or Nick may have more scoop.

I wouldn't think there would be any difference in ball flight.  Butt trimming produces very little effect compared to tip trimming.

    Hi Chris -

The 17 deg fairway with the stock shafts would be tip trimmed 1" as the standard.  RC is correct that tip trimming will play a much larger role in changing spin and launch than butt trimming would.  I would not think you would really need to request that we tip trim it any less than standard if the Kai'li was producing good numbers.  You would most likely see an increase in spin rate and only a minimal (if any) change in launch if you were to request we only tip it 1/2".

We butt cut these fairway shafts to length.

    Hope this helps...

  6. Nick thanks,

Just so I can finalise what I'm going with , Can you also please advise what is the tip trim on the 43 inch length Kai'li when used in the  910F 15 deg. as that is what I was using to demo the 17 deg.

I realise that as you increase FW loft manufactururers often tip trim to stiffen a bit to compensate for the usually heavier head weight. So I was in effect playing the Kai'li softer than normal with 43inch and 17 deg head assuming there is some head weight increase with respect to loft.

Just trying to be careful as if I specify less tip trim it could be retipped but  obvuoisly if I order wht I didn't actual try it means if its not working for me it's another new shaft.

    Thanks Chris
