  1. Folks,

Looking for a bit advise as I am bit confused.

Went for a club fitting today and I was advised to go for clubs with lie 2 degrees upright. So came home to look up about what the lie angle exactly was and from what a gather you usually push your shots right when you require to have upright lie's however my bad shot is a pull/hook. Could someone just explain cause I am confused???

Indeed, upright creates a pull bias.  Flat creates a push bias.  I'm confused as well.  Hopefully you have launch monitor data to share?

    Neil and Ryan,

Many times a swing flaw, in this case a over the top move, causing the ball to go straight left, shows up on the lie tape as toe heavy, hence, supposedly needing more upright.  Observation is one of the best tools a Certified Titleist fitter can possess.

Many fitters also miss length issues caused by length of existing clubs (shaft, blade length) and the resulting swing path problems.

Neil,  with your "Bad shot being the pull/hook" I would suggest standard length, standard lie until you can meet with another Titleist fitter to make another go at fitting.

  4. I basically drop on the inside at the top of my swing similar to Sergio Garcia (Don't play like him though) so I swing inside to out but have habit of getting very handsy and therefore the right hand takes over. So my bad shot is a pull hook and when I try to control the right hand I sometimes straight push the ball. I did noticed today that alot of my divots where toe end ones. I don't have any data from my fitting. Really down as I was wanting to order a new set of cb's however dont want to rush in and buy the wrong settings.

    Neil.

The basic idea is the heel-toe orientation of the club at impact. Which, yes, too flat means heel raised toe down will cause the ball to go right. And toe up heel down will cause the ball to go left(too upright).

However that is just one part. There is also the face orientation closed-open.

If you swing upright with flat clubs you will tend to close the face too much, and if you swing flat with upright clubs you will tend to leave the face open.

With a more upright lie angle, in order to grip the club the same way, your stance will need to be a little more upright, which will match a more upright swing and limit the closing of the face.

I would think the guy doing the fitting would have clubs available of different lie angles to try, that way it isn't guess work.

It might be true you need more upright clubs, it might not. 2* seems a little drastic.

If he doesn't have different lie angles available to try, I would have him bend 1 club and give it a try, I would probably go with 5i.
