I plan on getting fitted at my golf club on the outdoor range. I don't believe the club pro has a launch monitor but has been fitting golfers for 20+ years. Will I be at a disadvantage in terms of getting the proper fit? I am a 14 hcp so I am by far a great ball striker but I want to make sure that I make a good investment. As a follow up, is this a bad time to get fitted given that the new models will be coming out later this year? I was debating whether to wait but I really don't like the idea of getting fitted in the winter when I am unable to try the clubs outside (I live in Massachusetts where the winters are long and not conducive to outside play). Comments and advice are welcome!

Liam, Good question, tricky answer. I know and have worked with some of the best club fitters in golf, and many of them were trained and have been fitting before monitors were available. Many of them still do not use a launch monitor, they rely on looking at your ball flight, face and sole tape, divot pattern, etc, etc. Launch monitors are a great new tool that gives great data when working properly, hitting good consistent practice balls, with a good consistent swing; but what did players do for clubs before monitors were around? As far as waiting for new clubs, that is up to you, if you need something now, go get em! God luck with your fitting!
