Are there specific things in the different balls that are much more preffered for the low handicappers or tour pro's? or are they both pretty much the same for any handicap?

Ans; ProV1x, lower spin, more accurate on the green, streighter on the fairway and off the tee !
Technical- Lower dimple count.

There are specific characteristics of balls that are preferred by individuals, hcp makes no difference. It is more about how you play the game.

its about your swing speed and swing style.at 100 yards and in they are almost identical. the feel the same with a putter. and spin the same with a wedge.

As with any determination about which ball to play, it is based on your shot pattern and missed shot tendencies. You need to keep in mind that a higher spinning ball (Pro V1) will accentuate a missed shot, ie. a slice will slice more with a higher spinning ball. Many players can maintain enough stopping power, spin, with Pro V1x's, but also have a little safety net with a ball that is spinning a little less on mis-hit shots.

In terms of swing speed, I'm sitting around the avg 95mph range w/driver. The 2009 & 2010 prov1x seemed rock hard to me(compared to 07/08), while the prov1 has always had great feel, but maybe spins a bit much. Anyway, at 95mph can anyone confirm that I would benefit much from a distance standpoint using the 2011 prov1x? No guesses pls.

Kyle,
I don't think that it makes any difference at all with a 95mph swing speed...Not going to be able to compress the ball enough to change the distance...You may want to find a low compression ball that would help w/distance; Otherwise, I would recomend a "speedstick" to try and improve your speed. I bought one a few years ago and it really helped me.

It really depends on spin rates and trajectory. If you have a high trajectory and a spin of around 3000+ rpm w/ driver then I would recommend going to the V1x if your using the V1 and establishing a high trajectory w/ 2500 rpm then that's perfect. If you have a mid trajectory same thing...Low trajectory stick with the V1. For short irons and in it's pretty much identical.
Hope this helps.

Mostly depends on your short game. See how the ball works on a 30-50 yard pitch shot. See how it feels to you..... make your decision on those two things. This is regardless of handicap. DO NOT make ball decisions based on your tee shot. Tests show there is less than 10 yards of driver distance for most players when using a "distance" ball versus a higher spinning "performance" ball. Is 10 yards off the tee worth giving up control with your short game?

While I agree that the ball should be fitted from the green back, and within 100 yds is critical, don't over look launch conditions from tee and fairway.
If you tend to hit the ball very high, your generating a bunch of spin. As are the people with high swing speeds. Most fight to keep the spin down, and the launch as well. If you get a ball that spins TOO much off the tee, it could result in higher ball flight than preferred, and the possibility of lost distance in the wrong conditions.
So people NEED the higher launch to gain more distance, as the longer the ball is in the air the better chance they have to get more yardage. Keep all that in mind too!
I have always used the ProV1x.. I like the lower flight, lower spin off irons as I compress the ball very well, and I still maintain the short game spin I want. I have a swing speed around 105-110.

more tour pro's play the prov1x because it is consistent on shots.

I was reading the back of the new Pro V1 box and this is what it said:
Hope this helps in choosing the best ball for you!!!
