Hello, has anyone been playing around with the mid or long putters? I've dabbled with one on the practice putting greens and find or think I find, I get a better release of the putter head. Still torn on putting it in my bag on the course. But less putts are less putts and at the end of the day it all leads to a lower score, Anyone else dabbling?

I tried a mid and found it to be very awkward. I guess that I am just a traditionalist, but I had a tough time with it. Went back to my 34" Cameron...

    Hi there Joe,

I have been using a Kombi S ever since Adam Scott went to the broomstick. Mine's standard length though, couldn't bring myself to going long or mid.

Cant miss from inside 5 feet! Just got my Newport 2 TeI3 back from the Scotty studio though, so I think it might replace the Kombi in the bag soon.

    cheers,

    Mark

Nope I think they look ridiculous and only acceptable for people with back issues. I just use a jumbo grip that helps

  5. I work in golf retail and play in various top tournaments around my area. Long/Mid putters are a pretty hot thing in the game right now. At my store, we can't keep them in stock. People of all sorts of ages are buying them. At tournaments, my club, etc., I'm seeing more and more each time I go out. I don't see myself every using one, but, to each their own. If it works for them, and they're happy with it, then so be it.

I played with a belly putter about a year ago and changed back to my 33" Newport Mid-slant after about two weeks. I find controlling speed is much more difficult with the longer putters (attributing to the weight distribution of the putter head). Short putts with a significant amount of break seem much more difficult with the belly putter. However up and down-hill straight putts are considerably easier with the belly since your hands are basically taken out of the stroke. You also keep the putter closer the ground on the follow through (main point of emphasis from putting guru Dave Stockton) keeping the ball on a better track to the hole. Using a long putter doesn't make you an awesome putter, but it helps on off days where we might be struggling. The belly putter makes bad days okay and good days about the same. You have to play a lot of golf and truly track your putting stats to make the best decision. I currently have both a belly putter and a traditional scotty in my bag. I am 25 years old and played 4 years of NCAA Division II golf. Now I am in graduate school and my number of golf rounds per year has been cut in half. The belly putter is helping when I don't have time to practice, I believe everyone should give it a chance if they struggle using a traditional putter from time to time. This summer my avg putts per round was 32, but with the belly it decreased to 29. My best advice would be to putt with whatever you feel most comfortable with. Get on the practice green and hit several balls with each type of putter. If one feels better use it for a week and keep your putting stats. Hope this helps, I just thought I'd share my experience in hope it could help you. Don't worry about how they look, because when your knocking ever 15-20 footer in you'll see those same guys laughing handing money over to you not smiling any more. Good luck!
