I played my first round with a new SM4 56.11 on Saturday, wow! I can't believe how much green side spin these deliver. This club is generating more spin on chips and pitches than my previous Vokey SM's (even more than when they were new). I don't understand, I thought conforming grooves would not have the crisp stop that the old grooves had. That does not  concern me anymore on green side shots.

The bounce also feels better. I am not sure what has changed on the grind but it feels silky smooth. I feel like I have total control over all types of shots. The shaft is a bit lighter than my last club which could affect that as well. The club feels like it was built for me, right off the rack.

I only hit a couple of full shots, but they both went the proper distance and stopped within a foot of their mark. The wedge didn't seem to rip up the ball as much as my old wedge, but like I said, I have only hit 2 full shots. Here in Colorado the greens are pretty firm and sandy right now so these are exceptional results under the winter green conditions.

Have any of you Team Titleist guys tried it yet? Thoughts?

Thanks to Vokey and Titleist for another great product. You guys are good.

    Trey,

Glad to hear you are enjoying your new SM4 wedges!  I loved them the first time I hit them, especially the control I received from partial shots.  One reason you may be experiencing a bit more spin is because we have made the grooves as aggressive as we can to the limits of the Rules of Golf.  This forces us to to 100% inspect each groove of each wedge that leaves our production floor.

Are all of the new SM4 wedges conforming to new groove rules and approved for use in PGA Tour events? Your website for club information is down and I cannot get to the spec pages and to see what grooves and bounces are available. Thanks.

That's good news.  My wedges are getting a little worn out, so I might be moving to the SM4 this winter.  I'm glad to hear that the conforming grooves are still spinning for us mere mortals.

titleist would never put so much work into a club if it wasn't conforming to the conditions of competition.

besides, if it couldn't be used in PGA Tour events, then Titleist players couldn't play them, and that'd hurt Titleist's advertising potential and their brand as a whole...
