I am about to upgrade my wedges and have narrowed my choices down to two wedges. Titleist vokey or cally forged jaws wedge? Which one has better feel around the green and has the most spin on partial and full shots? Which grooves last longer because I want to keep the wedges through at least 1 1/2 seasons. Lastly which is better for the money.

Vokey wedges are the most played wedges on Tour. All Bob Vokey does is study, create, and design wedges for players from the amateur 20 handicap to the elite touring pros. The touring pros play his wedges (not because they are paid to play them) because they work the best. Bob spent a lot of time working on the SM4 wedges and through his new design, has been able to increase the spin over the SM3 by about 1000 to 1200rpms. He has also developed a new treatment for the grooves that help keep the grooves last longer and stay sharp. Tour players are usually pretty particular about their wedges as they are their scoring clubs and players such as Rory, Rickie, Scott Stallings, Nick Watney, Brendan Steele Bo Van Pelt changed into the new SM4's right away (and a couple have already won).

    Dear Bret,

    Thank you for your post.

The New Vokey SM4 Spin Milled Wedges have several upgrades from models past.

SM4 grooves allow for the Maximum conforming spin through tour proven extreme grooves that are 100% inspected ,  maintain tight tolerance, and have the most aggressive groove edge at the limits allowed by the Rules of Golf.

The individually Spin Milled cut grooves allow for superior full shot control.

Milled Micro Surface texture allows for maximum partial shot spin and helps those chips and pitches stop where you want and expect.

Durability is always a deciding factor when selecting a wedge, and all SM4 Spin Milled wedges receive a localized heat treatment in the impact area that preserves the precise milled grooves and micro edges.

Lastly, the SM4 Spin Milled wedges come in more loft, bounce and sole grinds than ever before.

    Happy scoring

Haven't personally played a Jaws wedge but I did try out another wedge and really didn't like the feel.

I played a Vokey 258-12 Tour Chrome for 2 years and got pretty proficient with it (but the limitation I had was long bunker shots and some hard bunkers).

Played for a year with CG15 DSG 58 and 64. They were great on turf but not so hot on a tight lie and ended up replacing them with Spin-Milled 60-07 and 64-07.

The Vokeys were far superior wedges. I recently simplified by exchanging these two for a 62-07 c-c wedge (the other two made great shots in their own right but had limited functionality) and this particular wedge does A LOT.

SV Tour (carried a 54/12 that I eventually applied toward a trade-in for the current 54-11 I have) works pretty well but, nonetheless, nothing really beats a Vokey. My 54-11 cc (bent to 55) works in a lot of conditions and I have gotten pretty vicious with it from distances less than 50 yards.

I also love the 50-08 (which I bent to 51-09) and I can get some serious spin with the right technique. I do a lot of "down in 2" from 60 yards in. Not particularly a fan of the 48-08 or the 52-08 (I would have had to severely modify the former to get it to do what I want and the latter wasn't really any added value in my short game).

Just to make it clear, I'm not really "brand loyal" since my driver-7W-4H are TM, my 5H is Sumo SQ (I used a Louisville persimmon 10 wood for about a year before finding the Sumo), my irons are Eye 2 6-9, my wedges are Vokey Spin-Milled CC and my putter is a White Hot. I even carry a Louisville persimmon 34H to make 14 clubs and I have been carrying an "approach" hybrid of some sort since 2007.

Thanks for all of your reccomendations, I went to golf galaxy today and picked a 60*04 black nickel spin milled and a 56*10 black nickel spin milled. I did buy these preowned in very good condition but both had some tarnishing on them. I am not a big fan of having a rusted or tarnished wedge. I did manage to get the tarnish off but I want to keep the wedges rust and tarnish free. How would I go about doing that? I have heard that gun oil works or a silicon cloth is good. What are your reccomendations?

I go to the Galaxy every now and then. Got my 50-08 SM cc there and a few used clubs. Try gun oil out.
