Question:
If you can only use one club out of your bag, to hit 100 balls a day to work on your swing......
What club should I use?
One PuttWinnemucca, NV
Lou GSan Diego, CA
JPHBBrooklyn, NY
Harvie Penick said to use a 6 or 7 iron - so trust a man who knew quite a bit about golf, use the 6 or 7 iron

The wedge would be my first choice and the putter my second. Short game is the key to shooting lower. A wedge is a very versatile club, you can hit full shots from around 80-120 yards, hit 50 yard shots and green side short game. And in the rare cases, you need to putt with the wedge

Use the club you are the least confident with and work your way to your go to club. If 100 balls is not enough, then don't break out another club. I couldn't hit a 3 iron for the longest time. I ended up taking it out of my bag until I felt confident enough that it belonged in there. My range sessions included warming up with a wedge then hitting nothing but 3 irons. I worked my way through my bag with this process and my game has improved tremendously.

Jeffery D,
I would think a longer iron would help me get my swing back after being away from the game as long as I have. But since I will be having a 3&4 hybird in my bag I should use the 5 iron? Or would you say the 3 or 4 hybird?

Back in the olden days:
You used 5i to test a set of clubs
5i was the shortest club you used with a full swing.
Of course back in the olden days the 5i had a shorter shaft and more loft.
On the range I spend most time with the clubs used on the par 3's, since the par 3's are designed to be the longest approach shots on the course. Then on par 4's you use a club to tee off that will give you a par 3 distance for approach.
But since you haven't played in 7 years, you have nothing to go on. I would suggest you swing the clubs and see which one feels the smoothest when you swing.
