  1. Hi All,

I recently decided to upgrade from using "just a sandwedge" to a 54/60 set from Vokey.

I decided to buy the new SM4 models in 60.07 and 54.11, but upon having the two at home (bought at different times). I noticed the font on the 60.07 seems to be a bit on the thin side, i.e. the 60 is thin compared to the 54 markings on the toe/sole of the club. The other oddity was the serial number seem to be written differently, one is perfectly clean (laser?) and the other is a series of dots (dot-peen?). The only other minor difference is in the shaft band itself, which on the 54 the red lines are a bit bolder than on the 60. The finish on the 54 seems a bit darker as well, but it hasn't seen as much action/cleaning.

Both clubs have holograms, and both have perfect grips, not to mention both perform quite well. I was just curious if this are two models from different factories or if some changes happened in the SM4 line.

Thoughts? I can grab a few pictures as well, just kinda odd to see variance in the same production year.

    Cheers,

    -Paul

    Hi Paul,

There can be slight differences in the wedges, but if you bought them new at Golfsmith, both are authentic.  We would be happy to bring them in for a Warranty inspection if you have any doubts.  Another difference in the stamping is that some are laser etched and others are stamped.

  3. On the topic of how thin the wedges are, you selected different bounces in the clubs.  You got a low bounce 60* and a mid bounce 54*.  Depending on your swing arc and ground conditions (firm/soft) you will more than likely feel you play one club better than the other.  The 54.11 has a "M" grind and the 60.07 has a "S" grind so that may make it seem like the etching is different b/c the head is not as dense on the "S" grind.  The time they were made tends to determine how the serial number is etched into the club. For the color, you might have picked up black nickel on accident, but more than likely the clubs were just made at different points in time and that could age the head a little bit making it seem darker.   Golfsmith is a very  legit company and would never purposely pull one over on you. Hope some of this information helps.

Vokey's are available with different finishes and different sole grinds. Thats my guess in the differences in your wedges.

  5. It isn't the wedge that is thin, it is the writing, I am well aware of the different grinds.  Here is a photo of the different texts, I saw at least one other 60 pop up and people questioned it if was authentic, so just curious if things changed. Both are satin finished, the black nickel is a lot darker. Both should be the same swing weight, based on the Vokey site.
