I'm a big fan of driving irons and have been told that Titleist is planning a release very soon.  Any truth?

I'm holding off on the purchase of a hybrid because of high expectations...I hope, I hope, I hope.

I just use normal irons to drive but would love that

I also hope they will release a driving iron or a hybrid iron forged.  I think I saw some pictures of a bigger headed 3 or 2 iron and it was forged.  That would be ideal.  I prefer irons over the normal hybrid.  I just prefer the swing style of irons over the sweeping style of hybrids or fairway woods. I would certainly buy a 18 and 21/22 degree hybrid irons and would certainly consider buying a 4 iron.  especially if its forged and looking blade like.  Just like the one I saw on the picture.

    Did you see the picture?

We've seen white woods and slotted FW/H, and now Ernie has a 18 degree driving iron/hybrid.  There are pictures on the web about it - looks almost like a game improvement iron from above.  We'll have to see where the mud sticks on what works.

I agree, you could use a game improving long iron.  However, not many game improving irons are forged and that does really make a big difference.  I used to play the 503.H 2 iron, but the feel was the same as a hybrid club but a bit harder to play.  My game has improve since then.  I believe that my game would improve by having a bigger headed and move forgiven forged 2, 3 and may 4 iron.  I play blades - Titleist 660 - and I use the 3 iron as a driving iron lots and play it off the deck.  I do struggle playing of the deck sometimes and would rather play a more forgiven forged iron than a hybrid.

Fantastic news - saw on golfwrx some pictures of a Titleist 913 Hd Utility irons.  They look fantastic - like a bigger, thicker (almost oversized) blade.  Plus and even better its forged.  So with more forgiveness, but still a lower (than hybrids or game improvement irons) trajectory.  Just what I am looking for in an hybrid Iron.

Next question, Titleist,  when are you are planning to launch these beauties?

I just ran across that in GolfWRX as well.  Can't wait to try one.

  9. Like others on this post the idea of a Titleist hybrid/driving iron is very appealing...........

Looking at the photo it is obviously hard to see the detail but does anyone agree they appear similar to the MP Fli-Hi iron?   I've had these Fli-Hi's in 18/21/24 to match a set of MP58s and they are excellent clubs.  If Titleist bring this out I'll be at the front of the line - much prefer them to standard hybrids and fairway woods.

Looking forward to more information on release dates/specs etc

    Chris,

Exactly right.  My son had that club and I kept lifting it from his bag.  I liked it much better than a hybrid because they are hit like an iron but are much more forgiving.

The disadvantage vs. hybrid is that they are not as reliable out of heavy rough.  I figure that if Titleist makes it, they will make it right.

  11. i cant Wait till november 9 so i can get a 913d3 driver, those look really nice. as for the driving iron, Adam Scott is already playing a prototype and its forged. I've carried oversized 2 irons for off the tees but theyre usually draw biased so theyre easy to hit but really easy to hook as well. Hopefully Titleist can make some without all the offset most have and ill be in line as well.
