AP1 712 Irons -- these clubs rock!

    HI Everyone,

    I just played my first 9 hole round with my new AP1 712 irons (4-PW, original Dynamic Gold S300s).  I left the 910 D2 in the bag and played 4 iron off every tee except for the par 5s.  I was truly impressed with the feel, flight, forgiveness and performance of these clubs.  My good shots felt like butter and had a beautiful hight flight.  The mishits held their line and didn't give up too much distance.  Knock downs had a nice penetrating flight that cut the wind.  These were about 1/2 club longer than my previous set of X20s which after awhile looked and felt like a set of shovels.   If you are looking for a gimmick free, traditional looking/feeling club that gives you performance plus forgiveness when you need it, you should give these sticks a serious look.

    Some input I would offer to my fellow titleist junkies (which you probably already know)...

    1.  Get fit!  I see alot of posts on here asking if this shaft or that shaft is right, this club or that club.  Get fit and eliminate the mystery.  I was fit for these at a local country club.  The positive results aren't overly surprising...they replciated what I saw on the range when I was fitted.   

    2.  Buy from an authorized titleist dealer.  I'm probably like the rest of you...I search for that great ebay deal, but always have doubt in the back of my head.  The last thing I want is to get scammed and spend a couple hundred dollars of my hard earned money on cheap chinese knock offs.  If you are serious about the game (which I am sure you are since you are on the Titleist website), clubs are an investment...you get what you pay for.

    I gained a club vs my Eye 2s.  I got some of my Eye 2s on eBay and ended up reshafting them to a shaft that has worked since about 2006.

    Affirmative on getting fit.  My job is easy because I pretty much know my lengths, lie angles and shaft types. The way I have mine fit, the 8-PW and my Vokeys are 1* upright.  The 7 iron is 1/2* upright (I don't carry a 6 iron since I have a 27 and 34H). 

    The advice about eBay is you have to know exactly what you are looking for.  Ditto with buying used clubs at Play It Again Sports, Golf Mart or Golf Galaxy (Golfsmith is way overpriced). 

    I also picked up a 910F 19 fairway - let me put it this way....   the price was a couple bucks less than the trade in.

    hey Kirk,

    Congrats on the new clubs - that's awesome!  I hope to get fitted and possible play Titleist irons one day.  At the moment I am very happy with another brand, but I do play Vokey wedges, so we'll see if I go "all Titleist" one day.

    Awesome! I'm considering switching my bag over to titleist piece by piece, and these irons are probably the first thing that I will get.  Glad to hear that you like them, it make me feel more comfortable about purchasing them.

    I'm doing the same as Christian.   I have a 910F 19* fairway, AP1 7-PW irons, SM c-c 50-08 and 54-14, SM4 60-10.  Have a 910H 24* enroute.    May go to a 910D2 12* driver next year (currently have 2007 Burner HT draw but it may have to break before I buy another driver).  Going to a Scotty? Not yet (my 7H works well) and $300+ is a bit pricey for a putter.  Also have a favorite club that will remain in my bag for those "special" situations (I have a Louisville HL3 34* persimmon hybrid that I have dubbed "the Screwy Louie Attack Hybrid" and I use it for 130-150 yard shots that I have to drop the ball on a dime or for hitting out of thick grass).  

    The AP1 8 and PW are my two favorite and most oft used irons.  I would say that 99 percent of my short game is between the 50-08 and 60-10.

    With the new AP1s, I now have a full bag of Titliest equipment.  I'm not loyal to a brand just because...the equipment has to perform and the Titleist equipment I play was truly the best of everything that I tried. 

    Another gem of a club for me has been the 910H 19* with the Diamana Ahina stiff.  This club is really versatile and fills my gap between the 4 iron and my 3 wood (906F4, 15.5) while giving me the versatility to carry another wedge for more options around the green.  I was never a big hybrid fan until I hit this one. bit it is a definte winner.

    I just got the 910H 24* zeroed in.  I had the fitter shorten it to 39" (with Excel RF grip) and my final Surefit setting is C3 - gives me a nice penetrating dead straight ball flight and it hits clean as a whistle.   Taking the 910F 19* to the fitter to double check a couple things.
