I carry 52-08 and 58-08 wedges in my bag. both of them are nonconforming wedges. My 58 is my go to wedge around the greens and shots that require a lot of feel so its pretty beat up. i realized i was in need of a new one and figured i should by a wedge that was nonconforming because as an amateur, i can still use it for a few more years. so i went to ebay and found one exactly like mine and it had never been hit. i bought it. so the next day, i go out and talk to the pro at my course and another guy who is a highly skilled amateur like myself and both of them say that i should buy the new wedges with conforming grooves because i will eventually need to learn to play with them and if i happened to play in a big tournament in the next couple of years they may not let players use nonconforming wedges. So i was thinking about selling the new wedge but when it came in the mail, and i saw, it i don't know if i will be able to sell it. i wanna use it and spin the ball a lot! but then i think i should get the new ones because i need to learn the play with them. What do i do!?!?

I've had a Spin-Milled c-c 50-08 since last year.  Just changed my 54-11 SM c-c to 54-14.  Also just recently acquired SM4 60-10. You have to play a little bit of roll with the Spin-Milled c-c.  The SM4s stick just as well as the non conforming clubs.

I would go ahead and get wedges with conforming grooves. My feelings towards the matter are go ahead and learn to play with the conforming grooves. I did this a few weeks ago. I feel like a can spin the ball just as much with the conforming grooves as I could with the non conforming.

Hit the wedge you just bought. I don't think you'll notice the difference. Or borrow a "new grove" wedge and try it.

    Hi Eddie,

Vokeys with pre-2010 grooves conform to the Rules of Golf and are usable in any event not invoking the Condition of Competition (C-C).  Amateurs can use these wedges until 2024.

With our new Vokey SM4 wedges, we were able to regain a lot of the spin that was lost in our C-C (SM3) wedges.  For example on 60* shots out of the rough, we lost up to 3000 rpm but were able to get back around 1300 rpm depending on the shot.  So bottom line, with the SM4 wedges you will not see as much spin loss as you think.

One other note, we still have our pre-2010 SM2 wedges available in select bounce/loft combinations.  So you do not need to purchase them through ebay you can order them through your local authorized Titleist retailer.

Best of luck with your new wedges.  We are always here to help or give us a call at 1-888-Titleist.

    Best regards,

    Dave N.

I recently purchased an SM4 60-10 (part of it was trading my Spin Milled c-c 58-04 and 62-07).   It stops the ball better than the 62-07 and gets a few more yards.  It is also more versatile than the other two put together.  It is the answer for the deep greenside bunkers with soft sand.  I can play it on a wide variety of conditions - soft sand, hard or wet sand, tight lies, grassy lies.
