Acushnet Bulls Eye Putters

    I have two original Bulls Eye putters and was interested in knowing more about them...

    1st) On the bottom it has the Acushnet Bulls Eye stamp as well as '0 - SET  6 - S' and also stamped is

    'Designed by John Reuter Jr.'

    2nd)  Again the Acushnet Bulls Eye stamp and '6 - A' as well as 'Heel Shafted Flange' this one also has a slit in the body and same shape as illustrated below.

    I took these pics off the internet.

    I think my Dad purchased them in the late 50s or early 60s?

    These putters were designed back in the 1970's before the acquisition of Scotty Cameron.  There is a chance that they may have been designed before then, but our records for those putters stop in 1970.  The "O-Set" signifies a slight off-set in the hosel. The "6-S" signifies that the putter was 36" and had a standard grip.  There were a few different models of the heel shafted flange, but this one looks newer and could have been part of the re-introduction in 1980.

    My dad has had an Acushnet Bullseye putter for close to 60 years now.

    I received a set of Acushnet/Titleist persimmon woods and tungsten weighted irons as a gift around 1980. They weren't new then, so the set must be at least 43 years old. I've always kept them in good shape and they look good. I rarely get out to play due to age(84), and poor health.  I'd like to sell them, but I really know anything about their history.  When and where were they made?  I could not find any distinguishing numbers or marks. How much should I ask for the set? Can you advise?  Thanks for any information.

    I looked at the putter of my late dad and it said "STDM6S" with "John Reuter"

    I have one of those Acushnet Bulls Eye putters, John Reuter, Jr, Made in USA, LMB6S.  Still has original shaft and grip on it. Asked a buddy about it, who is a collector and worked in the golf business and he said they really have little value, so keep it in my mancave to admire.

    Dear Cameron,
    Thanks for your input however the 1st putter I used when my Dad taught me how to golf.
    It was the only club in his bag that was short enough for me to swing as an 8 yr old. That would date the putter to at least 1962 and I'm not sure 
    how long he had it prior to that?
    The pics I sent were off the web and not actual shots of the two putters I have but yes the second putter came later but prior to the 1980 reintroduction.

    Hey Don,

    I forgot to mention that we had just acquired John Reuter, JR. putters in 1962, but all of my club history information dates back to 1970.  So that makes sense that you could have used it in 1962.  It would only be able to carry the Acushnet name from 1962 moving forward.

    Plan is to pass it onto my grandson who's 5 right now. Who knows, if he needs a retirement package these just might fit the bill in 2073?

    Unfortunately my dad passed away on 5/17/15 but I have the putter in my possession.  I took it to the practice green this AM and, once, I got the hang of it,  was draining a lot of putts. I've had thought about making a shadow box for it and placing it on the fireplace mantel but may have to give it the Billy Baroo cover.

    I purchased my Acushnet Bulls Eye in 1968 while stationed in West Berlin.  I have since acquired a second Acushnet Bulls Eye, this one a flanged model.  Because I was interested in perhaps getting my original one restored, I spent some time looking them up on the internet.  Doesn't seem to be a lot of super value in the used Bulls Eyes, somewhat to my disappointment.  I have just recently moved on to a used Scotty Cameron Fastback Nr 1 and have been completely satisfied.
