  1. After 13 years I think its time for a new set of irons.  My questions are;

    Can the new AP1 or 2 irons be compared to the DCI 762? and if so, which one?

    As I am getting older (near 50) I thought I would look for a more forgiving iron,  but the lofts on the AP2's are dead on to my old 762's and I am not sure i like the stronger lofts of the AP1's.  I like my current yardages, so how do the yardages compare for say a 8 iron AP1 vs 8 iron AP2?

    Thanks

    Gary

    Like you, I have been playing with 962 DCIs for 15+ years. I have lost some distance at age 52 and the feel for a good solid strike has been missing. Decided to get fitted for the 714 AP2s early this month. The first shot I hit was an eye opener, long with a little draw that has been missing for awhile. We started with the standard DG S300 but ended up with the PXI 6.0. I gained about 12 yards on average with the 6 iron over my old clubs.

    I am not worried about the change in lofts. It was explained to me that the 7-PW loft changes were designed more for ball flight characteristics than distance gains. I should pick up about a half club increase in distance which is not too bad. The shaft made the biggest difference in my decision to get new clubs. At my age, I am still strong but my hands don't work like they used to. Dropping 10 grams in shaft weight gave me much better feel during testing.

    I tried the AP1s and 2s last year. The new 714 AP2s surprised me with the improvements. I am anxious to get my clubs next week. Hope this helps.
