Looking to get new 714 AP1's.  Would the PX 95's at 5.5 be similar to XP reg or stiff? Thanks.

I recently purchased 714, AP2 with XP95 stiff shafts and was previous playing play AP2s with the below PX shafts.  According to the pro who fitted me that are both STIFF.  They changed my shaft in the new model the get a better ball flight and tighter pattern.  Have you tried the KBS shafts.  A very tight control pattern.  Something to look at before you pull the trigger.  Hope this helps.  Chuck :-)

The new Project X Flighted 95 is the lightest steel shaft in the Project X Family. The mid-flight design of this new shaft delivers the tour-caliber control expected of the Project X brand with maximum distance.
Project X engineers have incorporated descending weight properties into Project X 95 for enhanced feel in the mid to short irons.

Thanks Chuck. Have KBS tour now just thinking lighter as I get older.

  4. Hey Pete:

The PX 95 in 5.5 would be closer to stiff--as with all Project X shafts. PX (particularly its heavier iterations) always plays stiffer than True Temper models. PX shafts are sorted by frequency, not flex letter. The numbers basically correspond as follows: 5.0=regular +; 5.5=stiff; 6.0=stiff +; 6.5=x-stiff; 7.0=x-stiff +/"Tour" x-stiff. This sub-flex system is part of what makes Project X shafts (along with KBS products, which are designed by Kim Braly, the guy who used to run Rifle) so versatile and appropriate for serious players. You're making the right call. But get the final set specs confirmed by a fitter in your area....Depending on your swing speed, you could even contemplate "hard-stepping" the shafts to firm them up some more. Braly's philosophy in iron shafts is to "play the stiffest shaft that [you] can load." I know, turns the typical magazine advice on its head! (See KBS.com/"Introducing the Tour V.")

    Peter,

Overall, the characteristics for the most part are very similar. The main difference is PX 95 Flighted incorporates Project X's flighted technology.  This means the tip section is firmer in the shorter irons for lower flight and softer in the longer irons for higher flight.

I was wondering the same thing...I have the XP95's in my Ap1 714's and I love the feel...However, I seem to be launching them very HIGH.  Feel like I am losing some distance do angle of descent.  All Carry...and then drops out of the sky.  Thinking of something with a more traditional lauch angle.  PX95's, KBS, or Nippon's??
