  1. I have played with each of these drivers and am trying to become more knowledgeable as to the difference, primarily in shaft?  Obviously I realize one is stiff vs regular and the difference in loft.  I also have been told Diamana vs Bassara is nothing more than a difference in color, blue vs red.  If that's the case it narrows down to the difference/meaning of 65 Mid vs 50 Hi and what does the term "Kai'li" signify?

Any info would be greatly appreciated...thanks!

    Hi Dan,

Thanks for the question.  There is actually a fairly noticeable difference between the Kai'li 65 (S) and the Bassara 50 (R).  The Kaii'li is a heavier shaft with a stiffer tip and lower launch and spin Vs. the Bassara.  The Bassara 50 R has a lower kick point, producing higher flight. Combine these characteristics with the higher loft of the 913, and there should be a noticeable difference in flight.

    Hope this helps,

    Bubba

  3. Thank you so much for the reply.  Yes, there is a definite difference in ball flight.  Can you explain a bit more what you mean when you refer to a "stiffer tip" and a "lower kick point?"

    Thanks again,

    Dan

    Sure thing, Dan.

If a shaft is considered to be "stiff tip" or "stiffer in the tip" it means the shaft has a more stable tip section (the end that is attached to the club head).  Typically, a stiffer tip helps lower launch angle, reduce spin and offer more control for more aggressive swingers.

Kick point is another word for "bend profile".  It is used to describe the overall variance is stiffness throughout the design of a shaft.  If a shaft is described as having a low kick point, it will typically create a higher launch.  If a shaft has a high kick point, it will typically produce a lower launch.

    Hope this helps.

i'm playing a 910 10.5 Diamana 62 gm reg shaft. i was tested for diamana 55 gm. for my swing speed, the 55 gram shaft is priced out of sight. Is this worth it? what is your opinion?

    Hi Dan,

I temporarily bought a 910D2 with the Bassara shaft. when I compared it to my regular drives it had a typical high launch and as expected from the high torque value, a very soft feel at impact. The thing that really caught my attention was the hang time the ball had in the air. It just seemed like the ball did not want to come down. This was likely due to a high spin rate and a launch angel. Ultimately based on some launch monitor data, I could not get any significant distance improvements over  my 905R (9.5*, NV 65 R shaft).

I was looking at a used 910D2 with the same Diamana shaft at my local big box retailer just the other day. This one provided numbers more similar to my 905R with a middle launch but just a few hundred rpms more. The feel was a lot more solid at impact and to me it still felt like a miss hit on close to center strikes. Again, I couldn't get significant improvements for the price.

I spent about a day with each so, the differences in performance might just be lack of hands on experience, but those are my initial impressions with both shafts. If you have similar performance with both, go with the one that feels better.

    I hope that helps.
