  1. I am a  5-7 handicap and up until 2 years ago I hit my 7 iron 160-165. After a neck injury I lost 10-15 yards off all my irons.  I purchased a set of the ap2 irons and I still haven't gained my distance back.  Ive been told that graphite shafts would may help me gain some of my distance back.  I wanted to get some advice on what shaft to get.  I typically use standard stiff in all my woods and hybrids.  I am 44 years old and have an average swing speed. Please let me know if you have any advice for me.

    Hi Dalton,

    Thanks for the question.

Ideally, it would be best to see a local fitter and try different types of shafts and weights.

With that said, graphite is typically lighter than steel and can increase distance for the right player. Because graphite is lighter and softer than most steel shafts, it can increase spin which could result in a loss of distance for some players.  I have fit many people who initially though graphite shafts would increase distance, only to learn they were not a good fit for their game.

Keep this in mind when you are looking into new shafts.

Please don't hesitate to contact us if you have any other questions.

You are exactly right Bubba. I have the 712 AP1's w Dynamic Gold R300 steel shafts and was thinking I might do better with graphite shafts so last fall I went to a Demo Days and the Titleist Rep set me up with AP1 6 iron with GDI Tour AD 65i graphite shaft. I did hit the ball higher than with my steel shaft, (I guess because of more spin with the graphite) but only gained 2 yds. in distance. I'll have to say that I was very surprised at the out  come. I was expecting much more distance with the graphite shaft, but it just wasn't there. Needless to say, I stayed with my steel shafts.
