  1. I am in the process of upgrading my DCI 962B's to the new MBs - and was disappointed to learn Titleist don't make a 2 iron for the MB.

Tried the 909H on the range (had never hit a hybrid before) and really liked the performance - guess that's why Titleist don't make 2 irons anymore!

Which is better replacement for a 2 iron - the 17 degree or 19 degree hybrid?

  2. Hi Mark -

If you purchase a set of MBs and go with a 3-P, the 3iron is 21 degrees loft.  If you would like to keep a closer yardage gap between your 3iron and a 909H replacement club, I would recommend the 19 degree.  If you want more distance and a shorter yardage gap between your 3 wood and 909H, I would recommend the 17 degree.

A good rule of thumb: A 30 yard gap will require 1 club to fill, a 50 yard gap will require 2 clubs to fill.

Therefore, if your 3 iron carry distance is 200 yards and your 3 metal is 230 yards, you would probably better fill this gap with a 19 degree 909H.

  3. I play AP2 irons and 909 metal woods.  I hit my 4 iron about 220 yds and my 15.5 degree 909F about 265 yds, and not sure which will better fill the gap - 909H 19 or 21 degree?  Thanks!

@darryl s, in order to find the best fit for the gap, you should just try both and see what fits better, i did the same deciding between the 19 and 21 for the gap between my 4 iron which goes about 215 and my 3 wood which goes about 260, and i found the 19 was the best fit, the main point of  this is its basically up to you

Among a dozen or so friends at a golf forum I participate in, we have come to a pretty universal conclusion that loft for loft, our hybrids seem to go farther than the equivalent irons.  In other words, my 21* Titleist 909 hybrid goes farther than my AP2 3 iron. In terms of carrying only 14 clubs, I had to make the consideration how to fill the gap between my 3 wood and irons, so I went with the 21* hybrid and I have a slightly bigger gap between my hybrid and my 4 iron.  Where I play most, that doesn't matter except once a round at the most.

Is anyone else working around the same thing?

I have the same issue, I dropped my AP2 3 Iron basically because of inconsistent shot making with that iron, and added the 21 degree 909H to my bag but when i hit it on the screws i'm pushing 230+ with it...

  7. I appreciate all of the great responses!  I stayed with the 19 degree and love it.  Talk to you guys soon, and thanks  again!  DS

Hey Scott I have dropped my Titleist 1 iron for the same reason. I currently have a KZG Driver, 3 Metal and Hybrid only becuase the Russell family did them for me but now that they are not in the golf industry anymore I am going to move to the Titleist Driver and add another 52 degree wedge to boot. Hit them well and keep em in the short grass baller. Titleist by birth. Take It Light.

As per the previous posts and my personal experience with the AP2s and 909 hybrids,  my 21º (4) hybrid is longer than my 4 iron and replaces  my 3 iron.   My 19º (3) hybrid is longer than my 3 iron and replaces my lack of 2 iron.    I speculate your  best bet is probably the 21º.
