Got a chance to hit the 716MB and the 716CB this weekend and was very impressed with both. At address they both look very similar and have a very classic look. I have been hitting different MZ blades over the past 15 years and I the 716 will be the first Titleist irons in the bag since pre Y2K. thinking it will be a mixed set 3,4,5 716CB and the 6,7,8,9 as 716MB. does anyone have any thoughts on mixed sets?

I have used a mixed set for a number of years. My current set make up looks like this:

    • 3 iron is an 815H, 21°
    • 4 iron is a T-MB
    • 5,6 irons are 716 CBs
    • 7-P are 716 MBs

I did a mixed set like that with the 710's but just got the new 716 MB's in 4-PW and a 2 iron in the TMB (new club). Its all about feel for you and the confidence with the club in your hand. I hit the CB's great but I love the feel of the MB's better.

  4. I have played a mix set for the past year (4-6 cbs; 7-pw mbs). Both are great clubs. The only difference I see is that to get the most out of the cbs you need to take a good divot, where as the mbs work fine if you sweep the ball.

I love combo sets and I think if for nothing else it's a confidence thing in us as golfers. We all know it's harder to a hit long iron as consistent as a mid or short iron. So nothing when you pull that long iron in your head you know you have a little extra help over the MB. I actually just placed an order the other day for a 716 CB/MB combo set. 4-6 CB and 7-PW MB. There's a lot to be said about having a little extra confidence in your head when grabbing a longer iron.

It isn't just we mere mortals that play mixed sets. A number of Tour players to too.

    I went 2 iron  and 4-pw in 716 CB

Love the clubs, great feel and balance. If I get to scratch I may up to 716 MB or change out the 6-pw for MBs

Offset on MBs is ideal IMHO

I believe thats the way to go if you want  a little forgiveness with the longer irons and distance control with the shorter irons.

I played blades most of my life and currently play the 716cb 3-P w/DG AMT S300, great clubs. I have found them to be playable, draws & fades - high or low just like the blades. I love the higher trajectory I get in the long irons. Keep in mind that the 8-P doesn't have the tungsten in them, which I like and already play similar to blade irons with the 990 cavity. So the real difference with a mixed set for you is in the 6 & 7 irons w/tungsten or not. Your best bet is to get on a launch monitor and test the difference between the two in the launch angle & spin rate.

I was hooked the minute I saw the 735CMs, which I'm just now replacing with a T-MB/MB mixed set.
