    Hello,

I am going to get the 714 AP2 irons, and had a question about shafts.  There is no place around me to get fit, other than GG, which only has the stock options.  What are the really good shaft options for the 714 AP2?  I hit my 9 iron about 145, my driver ss is about 105, I want something a little lighter, say around the 100-105 gram mark, I want great feel, and accuracy (don't we all).  Any recommendations would be appreciated, thanks.

Food for thought: FST KBS Tour 90 Stiff (2.3 torque, mid launch, 102g,).... double check there might not be an upcharge for these.....there is not on the 916 AP2s.....a proper fit is the way to go, but this is a good shaft.....
  3. The only problem with the tour 90 shaft is you will lose 2 or 3 points of swing weight.  If you don't want that try the XP 95 shaft, about the same weight but built to maintain swing weight.

Although you do not mention what type of launch you are looking for or what shaft you are currently playing, I have found the KBS C-Taper Lites in stiff perform well in my 714 AP2's.  This is also mid-launch, slightly heavier than 102g, but provides the flight and dispersion that I was looking for when fit for the irons.

Thanks for the replies.  I have the XP 95 in my 712U 3 iron, and I really like it, but wanted some opinions of others.  I wish I could get fit, but I travel 5-6 days a week, and there really isn't anyone close to me, other than Golf Galaxy and Golfsmith.

Did you mean to say 716 instead of 714? You may not be able to get new ones ordered if 714. There would be off the rack sets, with the shafts they have. For the price of a new set of AP2s, I'd wait and find at least an AFC for some shaft options. The shaft in your 712U is a good starting point.

I was looking at a set of 714, and re shafting them.  I think I will wait until spring and try and find a place to get custom fit.

Robert, At your speed I would be afraid of going too light. You would really need to find a good fitter with a lot of options. The Steelfiber Shafts in 95g or 110g may be what your looking for. My numbers are similar to yours, I really like the new DG AMT shafts that Titleist offers in the 716. The AMT shafts range (3g) from 106g in 3 iron - 130g in Wedge. They give me the control & feel in the scoring irons to help dial in my distances as well as the extra speed in the long irons for slightly higher launch & longer carry.

Thanks.  i think I am going to wait until spring and try and find somewhere to get fit outside.

The Titleist shaft chart shows the various comparisons of shafts plotting spin vs launch.  Obviously, a fitter can determine the best results, but the chart should be a good starting point for what you are looking for.  I played png Eye-2's for almost 30 years with their ZZ-Lite Stiff shafts.  I hit the ball really high, with an 8-iron (40deg) around 150-155 yds.  I tried a few of the new Ben Hogan Ft Worth 15 irons in Tour V Stiff 110 and Tour V X-stiff 120, and hit them great.  When I saw Titleist's shaft comparison chart, I knew DG was the way to go with one of the lowest launches.   I just switched to some AP2 714s with DG X100 shafts, and couldn't be happier.  I only have 2 range sessions with them so far, but, In addition to that great forged feel I've been missing all these years, I think I get better dispersion and precision with the X-Stiff's.

    Best of luck.
