My question/discussion is what would everyone’s ideal wedge setup be?

I currently have a PW(45 degree I believe) SW from the SM5 range(56) and LW also SM5(60) in the bag, but was wondering what the general consensuses would be. Do you think it’s worth adding another club to the bag or potentially swapping one out? And if anyone can explain the grinds of vokey wedges that would be very much appreciated.

    Any feedback welcome, thanks. Nick

I carry a 44 degree P wedge, 48 degree W wedge, 52 degree gap wedge, 56 degree sand wedge and no 60 degree lob wedge. The 60 degree lob wedge ends up costing me 2 strokes for every 1 stoke I save. Its a love/hate relationship with that club.

It does sound like you have gap in there. Typically there should be 4 degrees of separation in your wedge set. Look up your current PW specs. and go from there. If its 46. You should have 50, 54, 58. Depending on your ability/needs. The grinds could be F/50 S/54 K,M/58. The conditions you play will be a factor as well. Best option...go get a wedge fitting!!! worth every penny.

I would definitely look at adding another wedge between PW and SW. The loft would depend on what yardages you hit the other two and if you have room for another club. Do you feel like there is a yardage gap you are missing? I added a 48* wedge when I was playing AP1's with a 44* PW because there was too much of a gap between my PW and 52 (30 yards). That really helped my confidence inside of 150. If you are currently comfortable taking distance off your PW to cover the gap to your SW is there another reason you are looking at adding one?

As for bounce, I have a steep swing so I prefer higher bounce grinds. Unless the courses you usually play have hard and tight lies or you have to open the face to hit a lot of flops and high pitches I would look at the mid to high bounce grinds. They are much easier from the sand and rough from my experience.
  5. You just need to find out what distances on full shots you want to hit and get the clubs that will make that happen. Most times it is in the 4 - 6 degree separations. Getting fitted for them will almost guarantee that you will hit those marks. You will also be able to find the grinds that you like the best if you can test them in as many situations as you may encounter while on the course, so I would recommend that where ever you get fitted it's outside on a good range.

I go 46 50 54 58. I am not long player but I have no gas throughout set. I found if you know the distances on your clock 10-2 and 9-3. you can get really dialed in. I do not take full swings with any wedges.
  7. Everyone has different gaps to fill so, I would first find out where your gaps are in your current set-up and go from there. My Vokey's go as followed: 46, 52, 56, 60. Sometimes I will rotate in my 48 on certain courses. Hope this helps...
  8. you could probably use another wedge between your 45 and 56, as that's a fairly big gap. May be worth adding a 50 degree gap wedge.

I have the same set up as Gary D with my 714 AP1's, so 4 degrees between each wedge.
