AP1 vs AP2

  1. Hi everyone -

I'm curious what people think would be good for me. I'm currently about a 15 handicap BUT I've only been playing 2 years (started when I was 32!). Went from 125s to high 80s on difficult course pretty quickly, and have a birdie about every other round. Anyway, I know that's not that good, just trying to give context that I'm improving fairly quickly even though I only get to play once a week (and in NYC, where the season is 9 months long at best). I like the idea of getting a set of AP2 714s but I'm worried that they might be too difficult to hit. That said, I've been playing DCIs from the late 90s this whole time and I can't imagine even a player's club from 2014 is harder to hit than something from like 1997. I don't want to shoot myself in the foot with harder clubs than I can handle but I also hate the idea of those hyper-strong lofts on the AP1s. Anyone have an opinion? I feel like I'm set to get a lot better this year.

    Hi TJohnson,

If you live in NYC go to New York Golf Center and talk to Herb.
You can even go to their location at chelsea piers and try any club you want on the range.

Anyway, you should probably get a fitting and I am sure they will be able to give you good advice on what you should get.

I got everything there last year from Driver to Wedges (all Titleist...) and they gave me great advice. I am very happy with everything I got.

    Hope they can help you.

I'm 13 handicap and went from ap1 714 to ap2 716 and I love them. I would recommend like everyone and get fit. Now they aren't as easy to hit as ap1 but I have gotten use to them and playing wellp
  4. Thanks a bunch! I'm actually at Chelsea Piers a lot. They probably won't have the 714s but I'll see if they do. If not I'll try the 716s. I just can't afford em!
  5. I think the new 716 AP2's will fit you perfectly since they strike a great balance of forgiving with performance. However, hit them at your local Titleist fitter to get a true perspective. I have them in my bag and love them! They are the most forgiving AP2 yet! IMHO

I was around an 11 when I got the 712 AP1s and they were great sticks. Last year I went to the 714 AP2s and I'm loving them as well. I'd repeat what most everyone else has said and suggest that you go somewhere you can hit both outdoors before you make a decision (and then get fit).

Good luck and enjoy the new sticks when you make your decision!
