My up front apologies if this has been discussed...
I play the 916 AP2s 6 iron - gap wedge. I have consistency issues with the longer clubs, specifically with the 4-5 irons, so I carry AP1s in those two clubs. It is not optimal since there is such a difference forge vs cast, and lofts; between those two models. When I need to go down to a 4 or 5 iron with the AP1s, I think of the clubs almost as a hybrid.
A friend of mine is playing the cally Apex Pro (very similar to AP2s) in the 7-gap; and the Apex (comparable to AP1s) in the longer irons.
The difference in cally Apex clubs is that both the Apex and Apex Pro are forged, and they use the same loft angles.
Is there any reason why Titleist doesn't take a similar approach? Or is it a price point/market issue?
I'm interested in any thoughts on this.
thanks
p.s. I love my AP2s, and I feel super confident with an AP1 4 iron in my hand....so not complaints; just curious
