  1. Hello,

I am looking to buy a new set of irons as I am wearing the grooves out of mine and I am unsure on weather I should get the new AP2 or MB irons. I am a scratch golfer and I was wondering if anyone had experience with both that would be willing to share some input. I currently play an older version of the AP2 irons but I am considering moving up to the MB irons as I have been playing very consistent as of late. I'm hoping to enter into some fairly big tournaments pretty soon and I want to make sure I have the right gear for the job.

    Thanks!

Have you looked into the CBs they provide a little bit of forgiveness and still a lot of the flight characteristics and shot shaping abilities as the MBs. I have heard that the 716 CB long irons are close to the same forgiveness as old AP2s. I have the 714 CBs and could not be happier with them.

I would not think twice about entering a tournament with AP2 irons though either they have been tour validated quite well. With nerves and adrenaline running high in a big time situation and blade irons a lot could happen where consistency goes by the wayside.

Hi Josh . . . it sounds exciting. I've played with the AP2's the past few seasons and am wanting to upgrade too. I am wanting to go with a combination set of T-MBs and MBs. (2-5 T-MBs) (6-9 MBs). I have gone for extensive fittings and have played with a demo set of the MB's. They definitely have a feel that is sublime! It's an incredible feel with the MB's ... nicely struck shots are a thing of beauty. They are also more forgiving than I thought that they would be, but to be perfectly honest, shots that were near the toe lost noticeable distance when I compare it to my AP2's.

I am still going to proceed with the MB's/T-MBs in the not too distant future ... but I would strongly recommend that you go to a certified Titleist fitter with. Vast array of shafts, use of Trackman, and go through a good fitting. Hit your balls of turf so that you can get a good feel for the way the club interacts, watch the ball trajectory, and get your data from the Trackman.

All the best Josh and hope you share your experience with us!

Don't get the MBs just because they are pretty. Try them out and get them if you hit the sweet spot every time. Don't let your ego get in the way.

I hot the sweet spot most of the time. I'm not a scratch golfer (I have other problems than the sweet spot). The AP2 and the MB are very different clubs and you know what they say... It isn't how good your good shots are, it's how good your bad shots are that matters and your bad shots with the MBs will likely be bad. The CBs are amazing clubs. I played the AP2s fromthe first series to the 714 and went to the CBs on the 716. You still get penalized for not hitting the sweet spot when it happens, but it's not a dead ball like the MBs.

Just do a fitting and try them all and let the data decide. Go with the best club for you.

This post is about as perfect as a response can be "it's not about how great your good shots are, but how good your bad ones are".

Also I'd say look look at her AP2, or CB too, maybe the CB's more if our want the smaller less offset and tad more spin.

Josh, if you are consistent with the AP2's, stick with them. I own both AP2s, MBs and T-MBs. Right now my fav are the T-MB full set. You have to hit all of them and see what is the right feel. They are completely different clubs and whatever fits for you personally is the right fit. Good luck and keep us posted!

Sign up for a fitting with those specific questions, and compare the irons based on the feel and numbers (AP2, CB, MB). That one in the middle is there for a reason... don't forget about the middle child.
  8. I played the same set of blades for 14 years and never had a problem stopping the ball. Made the decision to last year to play the 716CB. After a TrackMan fitting I made the right choice. AP2 vs MB is tough. I was inconsistent hitting 3 and 4 iron in the blade. With the CB's that isn't an issue anymore. Given the cost of a full set might as well see a Pro and make sure everything is right for a few extra dollars. I wouldn't recommend buying these off the rack at your big box stores.
