  1. I got a 14 handicap still 13 and are wondering which one to buy because I need to have this set of irons for atleast 6 years

My opinion?  I'm a +1 handicap.  I bought the 2010 AP2's.  I was a 3 handicap when I bought them.  The answer to your question is how you intend to play.  If you intend to just hit balls at range occassionally and then play once in a while with no real plan for improvement, go with the AP1's.  If you intend to work on your swing and improve your technique to lower your scores then get the AP2's.

I've hit both - the AP1's are slightly more forgiving just due to deeper cavity and offset, I beleive also they are non-conforming grooves.  That said, the AP2's are plenty forgiving for a player of your level. What they add is as you improve over the next 6 years, the clubs will allow you to hit the shots better players want to hit.  You choose the shot, AP2's can hit it... low, high, fade, draw and give you help with feel on poorly struck shots.  The AP2's will allow you to hit shots to but their design to help the player will increase the height of shots and make it harder to fade/draw...

So - if you aspire to become a better player, get the AP2's and grow into them.  They aren't hard to hit - they'll forgive you.  The AP1's just offer a little bit more help if you don't intend to be more than a recreational player.

  3. Being a 14, I'd have to suggest the AP1's. However, the AP2's are very forgiving, yet, seem to play like a forged blade. The best thing for you to do is to get fit for clubs by an authorized Titleist rep. Titleist clubs won't last 6 years, sorry...they'll last a lifetime!

I wish you the best of luck on your decision!

Go with AP1, the AP2's are more for scratch golfers with very low handicaps, the AP1's will be much easier to hit.

AP1....no question at all.  I am an 11 and they are best irons i have ever had.  AP2's not forgiving enough if you are more than single digit.

    Well Scott,

I personally play the AP2's and I love them more than anything I have ever used. They play well and shaping shots is relatively easy to do with them but they are somewhat unforgiving with bad shots. I swung both the AP1 and AP2 sets before deciding and in my opinion someone who plays less than 6-10 times a month should play the AP1's. They are more forgiving with the cavity back and could help with some extra distance. I hope I helped. Good luck with your decision.

I have a handicap of 12.4 and I just got fitted a few weeks ago and ordered a set of AP-1. I went with the AP-1's since they are more forgiving. I have since been shottoing low 80's and actually had 3 birdies in one round today for teh first time. I attribute that to the irons, i feel more confident hitting the shots to the green and I am more accurate. I also feel that they are very forgiving as well. Hope you have fun and make sure you get fitted.

I just received my set of AP1's last week. I am left handed and 33 years old with a handicap of 8. I went straight to the course with my new clubs and didn't even hit range balls first. I shot a 78 and should have shot lower (missed at least two birdie putts inside of 8 feet). I love the AP1's. They don't have the feel of a game improvement iron. I agree with others on this post. Get fitted by a rep and go with what you feel more comfortable with. It will be different for every player. As for me, I plan on sticking with the AP1's for a long time!!

It really comes down to what you want out of your iron game...I struggled with this for quite a while and bounced around with various irons...some game improvement and some player irons...what I finally decided that i wanted from my iron game was a high quality (good looking) iron that was going to give me a rather straight ball flight (not worried much about working the ball either way) and consistent distances.  I am an 8 handicap and looking to go lower as I need to work out some things off the tee (cannot wait for the 910 drivers to hit the market) and keep working hard on my short game to lower my handicap...good luck with your decsison as with either AP iron you cannot go wrong but it is all up to what you want out of your iron game...

  11. I am a 2 handicap and i have the AP2's.  They are a bit forgiving, but they truly are an amazing club.  As far as the AP1's i feel they are a bit more forgiving but it is harder to stop a ball on a green.

Very interesting observation Matthew C...as I have not experienced this at all with my AP1_710 irons.  Maybe it is the ball you are playing as I have no problem at all stopping my Pro V1x on the greens.  An exception would be an uphill approach to a green with a 4 iron might roll out some but that would be expected.  Whenever I come into a green with anything less than a 7 iron my ball is usually sitting right next to the divot it made.

  13. I've just turned 50 and play swoosh Pro Combo's. I'm making the switch to Titleist and was wondering if AP1 or AP2 are better for me. I usually shoot mid 80's to mid 90's but struggle off the Tee. Your thought?

I have played both. I am a 12 handicap and there is no questions the AP1's are best for me.
