im going to be buying some new irons soon for the 2011 season and don't know witch to buy. Im between the ap2s and the cbs. Im a 9 handicap but i am hoping to be around a 6 by the end of the year. i hit my irons pretty well and usually shoot around 85 on 18 holes. what do you recommend. any feedback at all would be greatly apriciated!!!

I love my CBs.  Tried the AP2s and went back to the CBs, partly because the lofts were different and I didn't have time to adjust to them before an upcoming tournament, not that I didn't like the AP2s.  both feel awesome.  My son coveted the AP2s away from me before I could try them again and he loves them.  Get on a launch monitor and see which one gives you the better ball flight. Note they may have slightly different lofts so make sure you don't just conclude you like one or the other for launch angle.  Either one can be adjusted to the loft you want or are used to. Right now I'm leaning toward a new set of CBs rather than trying the AP2s again.  --Jerry

Well I have been playing AP2 irons for 2010 and was in the right place at the right time and got a half set of CB 710 irons.  I hit my AP2s well and didn't see any problems playing the CBs 7-PW. also they had KBS Tour stiff shafts which I had demoed and loved in them.  Well I hit them higher than my AP2s but that is probably the shafts, I had Project X flighted in the APs.  Dispersion is much tighter, could also be shaft?  I still carry the Ap2 4 iron but now with the KBS shaft also and hit that better than before.  Demo them both and look at the numbers is the only real answer.  Come and hit mine but I doubt you are based in Manchester Uk.

I have the AP2 710's with KBS Tour shafts and am very happy with them.  I play to a 4 handicap and they are workable like my MB's were.

Just get fitted and see what heads and shafts you like and what fits you best.

Many of our players switched from the original AP2 (if they switched) to a CB/MB combo.

    But we've sold many 710 AP2s!

Main performance difference:  AP2s launch and spin a smidge higher.   You may need that in the 3/4 iron.  I personally use an 710 AP2  3 iron, 5,6,7 CB and 8,9 MB and 48, 53, 59, 63 Vokeys.

Based on your skill level I would recommend the AP2's. But go try them both out and see which model you like better before buying.  The Ap2's are a little more forgiving, launch the ball a little higher than CB's, and still have the classic look at address like the CB's and MB's.  Good Luck!

  7. your skill level would probably like the ap2's, after you reach your goal of a 6, reassess and then see what your swing is doing

Just an idea, but you may want to hold out and wait till the new irons come out.  Not sure when that is exactly for this year but they may come out with something even newer.
