I completed my fitting yesterday and the results came back pretty much what I expected.  I'm, for lack of a better word, standard across the board with the exception being lie angle (2 degrees upright needed).

I hit the ball pretty well during the fitting, and tried the DGS300 (current shaft in my 990s), Project X 5.5 and the DGL.  Hit all three fairly well, but the DGS300 seemed better, not as high of a ball flight and seemed to penetrate better.

But my concern is clubhead.  I love the look of the MBs (not that the CBs are shabby looking) and hit them both well.  I like to work the ball on the course, for better or worse, and the Titleist rep said I could go with either, that the CB would give me more forgiveness and slightly less workability.

Anyone here have any opinions between the two?

I also got fitted for a driver from my current 983K with Graffaloy Pro Lite.  I hadnt planned on doing a driver fitting, but figured why not.  Not much was done with the launch monitor, but he fit me into the 910D3 with the Diamana Ahila Whiteboard 72g shaft.  I know absolutely nothing about driver shafts these days.  Any guidance on this one?

As far irons go, I say get both! I have a 4-7CB, 8-9 MB.  Works great and you can't tell the difference at address.

I think you will really enjoy the Ahina Whiteboard.  I suspect it will be a top three shaft at the end of the year in terms of players fitted along with the Diamana Blue, RIP and or Project X.

I agree with RC as well.  I play the 3 thru 6 iron in CB's & 7 thru PW in MB's.  This gives me the workability in the short irons that I like and in the long irons I have the foregiveness and higher launch with the CB's.  Go Blended!

    Hi Michael -

Any authorized Titleist dealer can place an order for a mixed set of 710 irons.

In order to answer your question about the Driver shaft i would need to know what degree of loft the 910D3 is and what is your swing speed with the driver.  The Ahina shaft has low torque and low launch for lower ball trajectories.  Also the D3 driver is made to produce lower ball flights, but you would definitely want to go on a launch monitor first because you may lose distance if the combination is wrong.  You may want to try a higher loft or a mid launch shaft to optimize the ball flight and distance.

I like the recomendation of the blend set especially if your a dg300s player. I'm a 3-pw guy at x100s and im fine hitting a 3i blade but i will admit its always easyer with a cb or ap2 and i offten thought of swaping out my 3 and 4 but i would have a yardage gap if i did. as far as the driver goes i would trust the fitter im sure he is a trained professinal and i wouldn't worry two much about not having been on a launch monitor. I've seen faulty launch monitors before and sometimes you dont need them. I got fitted with out one and i have had no issues. If you are comfortable with the fitting he gave you i would get that. the white board is a great shaft.

Thanks for all the feedback.  I'm still debating the split set vs a full set of MBs.  I don't want to overwhelm myself, but my ball striking is pretty consistent.  Using the lie board and tape on clubface, I was definitely 2 degrees flat (will go 2 up to solve) and once I went to a test 2 degree up clubface, was striping it in the middle.  Granted it was in the hitting bay, but I hit 12 6 irons in a row and the ball mark didnt move once.  Too bad I cant do that on the course everyday.

Looking at drivers.  Im trying to determine if the RIP 60 or the made for Titleist Ahina 72 (both in stiff) is the best bet.  At the fitting, I was told the Ahina would be best bet, but I never hit any other shaft.  I went to a hitting bay at Golfsmith (another fitting with Titleist) and the RIP provided more carry, ball speed and less spin as compared to the Ahina.  ABout a 7 yard difference in carry and 9 yards in total distance.  Of course, I couldnt see ball flight due to hitting bay.

Any recommendations between those shafts?  Swing speed is 108-111, ball speed was 156-163.  RIP launched a touch higher (13 degrees compared to Ahina 12.6) and spin was approx 2500-2650 with RIP vs 2900-3100 with Ahina.

Wanted to follow up and hope that a Titleist rep would see this and pass on some knowledge.  What are the differences between the CBs and MBs?  Aesthetics have me picking the MBs, but I want to get what's best for my game.  Having the 990s, it makes a move to the CBs seem a bit pointless with the similarities.

    Hi Brent,

If you find that you hit the MB just as well as the CB, I would suggest you go for the MB. I am also using the MB's and it is a great set of irons! The looks of the irons are really beautiful too.

As you said, the CB's are nice looking irons too, but of course the MB's are better looking :)

So if you can hit with the MB's, I would say go for it!

I agree that having a mixed set would be very beneficial, but I have the 710 cb's and honestly, at least for me, the mb's are no harder to hit than my cb's. I know that they're supposed to be less forgiving, but something with the weight of the mb's makes it surprisingly easy to hit, and it goes a little further. But overall, being totally honest, from my experience the difference isn't that big.

What's the spin difference between the MBs and CBs?  I was told by my fitter that I have a high ball flight, though I never thought I did.  Looking to figure out the spin characteristics and then figure out difference in swing weight between Tour Velvets or the Black/White multi-compound.  Hoping Ryan, Nick or Cathi are around

The MBs may spin slightly less, but in general terms, lofts affect spin the most.  So, it almost doesn't matter which iron you decide, we can tune the lofts to meet your performance demands.
