I currently play with TM R9 460 driver and R9 TI fairway, with REAX60 Stiff shafts (lofts 10.5 and 15). I have tried the 910 D2 and D3 with the Aldila RIP 60 shaft, which seems like a great shaft for me. I've hit them both in 9.5 and found the D2 a little more forgiving, with a much better ball flight than my current driver. I have also hit recently an old 905R with Titleist Speeder with 8.5deg loft which really goes too.

My Swing speed is around the 100-105mph mark with a driver, with ball speed around 150mph. I do create a lot of spin on my driver, with little roll, so wonder what will have the biggest effect on lowering the ball flight the loft or the shaft

My home course also has a few carries over trees so am think of maybe going with the 13.5 degree fairway. Is it going to be too hard to hit or would I be better going with the 15 and taking some loft off if necessary?

Any help woudl be greatly appreciated!

Loft/clubface contributes 80% of ball flight performance, so if you are spinning, then lower lofted D3s will help.  Shafts affect about 20% of ball flight...so different combos can alleviate 100-300 rpms.

I'm liking the RIP 60s in my driver.  I swing around 110mph with 160-165 ball speed.

The regular 910 F 13.5 plays very well from the fairway for our players!

Thanks Ryan for your help with this.

Is there a noticeable difference in forgiveness between the D2 and D3?

If I go with the RIP60 in the driver, should I be looking for heavier shafts in the fairway and hybrids (RIP 70 in fw, plus something that performs like the RIP in the hybrid)?

In my personal opinion, both drivers can be designed to perform optimally.  The D3 just spins a little less, launches a little lower.

You should definitely be looking for something heavier in the fairway and hybrid.  The RIP is a good place to start but doesn't necessarily translate to your desired needs for each club.

Tried the D2 today at my course, playing with the 9.5 set at D1, which gave a comfortable launch. As this is set at the lowest loft, do you think I would be better going to the 8.5 (giving a 7.75-10 deg range) or going for the D3 in 9.5 set at A1?? When I tried the D3 I wasn't quite as comformatbe with it but this may have been simply an off day.

None of the pro shops nearby, that sell the drivers, have launch monitors so am having to do it a bit by eye. I am trying them on my home course so at least I get to see how they perfom in my normal conditions.

Also played today with a ProV1, when I normally prefer the x. Is this likely to make much difference to launch?

    There are so many options!

The basic analogy for the "fit by eye" technique is a shape that goes:  up, out on a flat, down like a 'copter.   We don't want to see any "floating" with too much spin, or diving with too low spin or launch.

New Pro Vs definitely fly higher.  It could be a "toss-up" for players this year.  I haven't formed an opinion yet.   Right now, whatever feels right around the greens is the best advice I can offer.

During a fitting session with my players, if their current driver spins too much for their ball speed, the mission is to contain spin first, then maximize launch, then ball speed.  Ball speed usually takes care of itself.  We can also find a setting now that promotes their desired draw or fade.

If their current driver spins perfectly, then we try to see if we can launch higher and increase ball speed.

If we can't beat it, then we can't beat it!  Actually had that scenario yesterday.  A 910 lost it's first match to an  FT Tour.  First loss of the product year with one tie.  ;)

So...if you like to draw it, maybe go with the 8.5 a little upright or with more loft.  If you like to fade it, you may like the stock 8.5, or you may need that 9.5 set to D-1 or C-1.

If your getting better results with the d2 over the d3 i would say go d2. like RC was saying start with loft then find a shaft that matchs. im a D3 guy will an adilia x-stiff in my driver. I used to have the same roll problem as you and the D3 deffinetly helped me with fixing that. you Should be just fine with a 13.5 3W. i play one and i hit it just fine. If your planing to use it off a tee you deffinetly dont have to worrie about getting it over a tree. you'll be just fine. be sure to have a proper fitting done.
