  1. I finally got fit for irons and shafts yesterday.  6 iron launch height of 93 feet and swing speed of 80-82 mph with 6 iron resulted in a fitting for AP2 with Project X 5.5.   I hit the PX 6.0 as straight as an arrow, but the fitter said it was a stretch and I had a better kick point with the 5.5.  Whatever.  Anyway, my question is, to avoid any ridiculous gaps, I want to strengthen the loft on the AP2's by 2 for each club (5-pw).  In doing so, will I negatively affect the bounce in anyway?  Will strengthening the lofts mess up the bounce and does Titelist adjust for this when you custom order a set?

    Michael,

For every degree you deloft a club, you will be reducing the bounce by 1 degree as well.  So if you are planning on delofting your new set of AP2's by 2 degrees, you will be reducing the bounce by 2 degrees as well.  Titleist cannot adjust for this because if you change the loft or bounce, you effectively change the other by the same amount.

  3. Titleist guy I met up with on Saturday for the fitting said it would completely mess up the bounce of the irons.  Strongly encouraged me not to do it.

    Any other thoughts?

If you are a digger (take big divots), you may not have enough bounce when you strengthen the clubs by 2°.  If you are a sweeper, you may not notice too much.  It will not "mess" up the bounce by strengthening the lofts, you will just have to be aware that you will have less bounce.  We check turf interaction for our PGA guys that use the AP2's and if they want to flight the ball down, we do strengthen their lofts, too.
