910 Shaft/head

    In the next couple of days I'm going to place an order for a 910 driver so it's here by the time the snow is gone. I want to order an aftermarket shaft and I'm wondering what my best options were with the 910. I play a Mutsubishi for Titleist right now in my 907 and it's just not the right shaft (everybody and their brother has recomended that I get away from the "for Titleist" shafts and go aftermarket). Swing speed average is 122 MPH and I hit the ball quite high, so I wouldn't cry if the ball flight came down a little. My tempo is on the medium-fast side and my miss is a big hook (but I play an "S" shaft with a 4.3 torque, so the hook is no shocker).

    Also, I'm not sure whether to go with the D2 or D3. I'm a 1.8 handicap that favours a draw, but I like to work it doth ways. Am I correct in assuming that the smaller D3 is easier to work? Any input I could get would be much appreciated. Cheers!

    Ok a few things here.

    1) I have a swing speed similar to yours and have a D2 9.5 with a Mitsubishi Diamana Ahina 72 X.

    This shaft is really good for me, low torque, and lower flight. I hit a high ball also and this give me the flight I want.

     

    If your worried about the "for titleist" don't be. I am friends with our local rep for Titleist and he told me that the R and S flex actually are tweaked by Titleist (more torque and different kick point). HOWEVER the X flex are straight out Mitsubishi and aren't tweaked. I trust him on this and can tell that this club definitely is a solid X flex. Mitsubishi is one of the good shaft makers out there.

     

    2) Between D2 and D3 the decision was pretty easy for me. I chose forgiveness. The D3 has a slightly taller face but I think it's a bit bulky for my eyes to look at. The D2 sets up so solid to the ball, it was the right choice. I am averaging in the 275-290 area and thats with little roll here in Nebraska.

    3) Finally if your swinging 122 you need to get rid of that stiff shaft like its diseased. I hope you didnt get fitted for that. Get an X Flex you will love the results.

    Great advice Dylan!

    Personally, I recently switched from the Project X 6.5 to the Kali (for Titleist) 65 X-stiff.  I am very happy with this shaft and the X flex in the "for Titleist" shafts are very close to the after-market Tour versions.

    It is hard to break the stigma a proprietary shaft carries but anyone who dismisses the proprietary shaft for that reason alone might be missing an opportunity.
