I recently purchased set of theses irons (April 2011). I was custom fit at the Titleist performance center in Oceanside CA I ordered them 1* strong and 1* upright based on my professional fitting. I hit them pure the first few months and now not so good. I love irons, the look and feel is great. Much better than the old set of png s59. My question is how often do I need to re-check the irons to see if the loft & lie has been adjusted from playing rounds of golf or hitting balls at the driving range?? Does the 1* upright make that much of a difference? I have noticed I've hit more "fat/chunks" of late and wondering if the specs are off or am I going through a slump or is it in my head? Any info from a club fitter is appreciated. Many thanks, Greg

    Greg,

Although it is a good idea to check the setup of your irons occasionally, the irons are not likely to change much and the changes would be very minor resulting in very small errors.

The only constant in a golf swing is that it is always changing.  In modern digital terms, I believe what you have is a PEBSAG error (problem exists between shoes and glove).

Now if your swing has permanently changed and you like the new swing, the clubs may have to be refit to your new swing.  But I'd guess you want to go back to what you had when you were hitting it well.

The fat/chunk error can probably be best addressed by your coach or local professional. --jerry

I am a Uk based club builder and own CB 710s and my own loft and lie equipment, I check mine every couple of months and the short irons seem to always need a tweak but the longer irons rarely do.  I say get them checked.

    Hope that helps.

thanks for the replies.  I figure the problem is the player and not the club but I was told to check the clubs every few months and since I've seen a change in my contact with the ball thought I would toss this question on there in an open forum to see if that could be a problem.  My swing has not changed so probably a little more time at the range and building some confidence will go a long way.  appreciated your time and comments.

We looked back on your fitter's notes and he had noted that you were very sensitive to different lie angles.  The AP2's are made of a softer material than your former irons.  If you have hit a lot of balls on mats or hard surfaces, it is possible for the club to bend.  As a custom club order, we will always bend your clubs back to your specs for free (you will have to pay shipping), so you may want to have your lies checked and adjusted.  Please have your golf shop call 1-800-833-3450 X1 and have them set that up for you.

Hi Greg!  I tell my players to check their irons/wedges every 20 rounds or so.  So for most players, that's about twice a year.  May also help to get a TPI Certified Pro to look at your swing and provide some thoughts.  RC
