  1. Hi guys.

What would you guys do? AP2 47* PW or Vokey 246 wedge.

    Thanks for the feedback.

Depends... I'm a huge Vokey fan (50, 56 & 60 in my bag).  however i'm looking at the AP1's and thinking I'll stick with that PW vs. another Vokey.  we'll see if i end up liking it or if I get a new SM4 46*!  :-)

I swapped my 775 PW for the Vokey 246. The 246 is better from the fairway and much more flexible around the greens.  Love the rest of the 775s.  Looking at 712's but will do the same thing

I've generally been a "set wedge" person for the PW and GW. I've had one occasion where a "set" sand wedge outperformed the specialty wedges. I constructed a set of Snake Eyes Q3I irons and the SW was rather versatile (tight lies, soft bunkers, pitching and chipping). I carried this set for 2 years with various lob and X wedges (CG15 DSG 58 and 64, followed by my current Vokey 60-07 and 64-07 and the latter two are keepers until 2024). The Vokey is designed for more spin so there will be most likely about a 5-10 yard difference in distance on a full shot. The Vokey will stop the ball better. I would say since you have the AP2 PW already when you get the set, why not try it for a few rounds before going out and buying a Vokey 246? Option B (before spending $150 on a new 246) is to buy a 48-08 used (generally about $50) and try it out just to see if a specialty wedge or a set wedge works better for you. Golf Mart (Roger Dunn Golf Shops) has a 90 day playability guarantee and you can return the club (no questions asked) for store credit (go buy some goodies). Golf Galaxy also has the same 90 day return policy and generally has lower prices on used clubs (but a smaller selection). This method is also a nice way to figure out what works for your game before dropping $2000 on a complete set of clubs (for instance, I found out I fare better with a 7 wood vs a 3H and a 5H vs 4 and 5 iron; much less work).

My last 2 cents is this is a similar thing to the "fairway wood vs hybrid vs iron" debate. That is a personal preference and sort of a "comfort zone" thing. I have a friend that hits a 3 iron very well but struggles trying to hit a hybrid or fairway wood off the deck.

When I got fit for my AP2s I hit both the PW and Gap wedge vs the Vokey.  I liked the PW better than the Vokey, but I liked the Vokey 52 better than the Gap.  I judged by feel, gap in distance, and spin.  I got more spin off the Vokey Gap than the AP2 and hit them both the same distance.  I didn't really get the distance gap I needed between the PW and Vokey PW.

I just got a Spin-Milled 48-06 cc (had it bent to 49) and I can even hit a long bunker shot in soft sand with it (it gets a reasonable amount of air time. Do have to admit the spin is a bit more than either my DCI 981 PW or Eye 2 PW. Helps a bit in my eval of the two iron sets because I have a common PW to use. I have to deal with about 5 yards less distance on a full shot vs either PW but that is OK (it is why they invented choking down on the 9 iron a little).

I returned the 48-06 cc to the store and got a 58-12 cc instead (I like the latter much better). To get the 48 to hit properly and cleanly on full pitches, I would have had to cut the shaft 1/2 inch and made the lie angle upright by 1/2 degree (clearly voiding the warranty) - this would have also decreased the swingweight by 3 points, necessitating a lighter grip (such as Winn Excel RF). It is 1/2 inch longer than any of my PW and 1/4 inch longer than my 9 iron (in either iron set). It was a bit of a disaster on the golf course today (I hit the same pitch shot much cleaner with my 54-11). I absolutely love the 58-12. It does all the tricks that my 258-12 did 4 years ago (and serves as a reminder that I should have kicked myself in the butt for selling the latter; it worked a lot of miracles on the golf course). Set the lie angle to 65 degrees at the store, took it out for a torture test at the park and it is ready for the golf course.

There was another topic where I mentioned the 48-06. My comfort zone with the PW-SW is 35.25 with a lie angle of 64.5 degrees and for the LW-XW is 35" with a lie angle of 65 degrees. My 9 iron is 35.5" with 64 deg lie angle. The other thing is the 48-06 has a swingweight of D2 in stock form.
