I am hitting the ball of the toe of my irons and am seeing my divots deeper on the toe end of the club. I am going to have the lie adjusted and was wondering if this will help with the toe hits?

yes it will you need the ground impact to be at the centre of the sole of the club.

Yes it will. I have 2° upright on all my clubs and I definitely feel a difference in a good way
  4. Hitting on the toe with the toe digging is a sign of early extension. If you stand up, the club gets closer to your body in order to reach the ground, your shaft angle also gets more upright. Adjust the lie if your strike is good, but your digging the heel or toe. You need to check your swing.

This was my problem with toe strikes. Got my daughter to film my swing and playing in slow motion, it’s very easy to see. Now when playing and it happens I know what’s happening.

Put a piece of masking tape along the sole from toe to heel of your club, get something flat like a piece of laminate flooring. Take your normal stance and strike the board, it will leave a mark on the tape on the sole of your club which will tell you whether you are striking nearer the toe or the heel. Make sure you are standing the correct distance from the ball. If the mark shows towards the toe then your club us to upright if the mark is nearer the heel then its to flat. Off the toe ball will go right, off the heel the ball will go left. You need to make sure you are standing the correct dusrance from the ball. If this fails then you need to get your lie adjusted to suit your setup as the mark needs to be in the center of the sole.

Richard is right about the tape (black electrical tape works best), but he's incorrect about results. Its opposite; if the club is too flat, the the toe area of the club will show the mark; if it's too upright, the heel will show the mark. Your clubs are too flat Don (assuming they are the correct length for you).

Think about it in this simple but rather extreme way; if the lie angle was 90 degrees, the heel would hit first; the toe would never reach the ground.

Hope this was helpful. Good luck Don.

Also toe strikes cause a draw and heel a fade. I assume it’s why I play a bit of a draw from time to time. Off the toe just a bit.

Believe me, I can hit a draw with a heel hit, that's my predominate shot. Some players with an open clubface and an outside to inside swing can produce a nasty slice with toe hits. Draws and fades are achieved more from swing path and face orientation than from location of the strike on the clubface. Off center strikes affect distance the most.
  10. When I ordered my Titleist AP 1 Irons I had bought 2 degree upright .Latrly I have started hitting of Toe from my clubs. If I flatten the lie angle will I stop hitting off the Toe ?

Not really. The lie will alter how your club hits the ground but if you are striking properly, the contact with the ball will have already occurred. Best advice would be see a professional for help. He/she might be able to help determine why you are bringing the club down closer to your body than during your set up. Good news is a hit off the toe is more controllable than the hit off the hosel (unfortunately my too frequent miss). The way I work on avoiding the heal shot is to place two balls on the ground about a clubface width apart and hit the one closest to me. Sounds simple but it works. Maybe do the same and practice hitting the outside ball without touching the inside one. Anyway, see a pro and don't take too much credence in advice from us hackers. Cheers!

Could be a lot of things causing it. Setup, early extension, coming over the top, toe droop bc you need different shafts, etc. etc.

Head to a fitter with a high speed camera and you can easily find the cause if it’s equipment related. But, no need to start bending clubs or replacing shafts if you can correct it with a few range sessions and some continued maintenance.

It seems that the easier I hit that club, the easier that draw comes when the feet and club are lined up correctly. Just two cents more.

Making the club uppgright will help, ball wont start as much to the right ad the club will go easier trough the ground, its not necessarily gonna remove the toe strike but will for sure make a difference in the overall shot.
