The evening of August 5th I was golfing my personal best round and was running out of daylight. On 17, a par 3, pin was up and I ranged it at 145. I hit a 9 iron and like normally it starts off right ( I play a draw) of my target line and I immediately lost sight of it, I wait and hear immediately what I thought was the ball hitting the pin. I second guessed myself, and thought it could have been a branch since there are trees on the right side. I decided to hit a provisional to hurry and get 18 in before it’s pitch dark. My provisional lands short of the pin about 15 feet and I hurry and putt leaving it about 2 feet short and that’s when I notice my first ball has made a huge divot and in-fact hit the pin and stayed in the cup for a hole in one! I wasn’t clear on the ruling because I did hit a provisional and turns out per USGA 6.5/1 it was ruled a hole in one! I’m still grinning and thankfully I am part of the HIO club, so looks like my guests will be getting new shoes. I always play Titleist proV1’s and yesterday was no exception, a lucky number 4! What a day!
