Happy New Year. I have been playing golf for 25 years and have never had a hole-in-1. Then on January 8, 2023, Sunday morning, my friend Darryl and I headed to Costa Mesa golf course for our typical 1 round a month. On the 2nd hole, about 125 yards to the middle of the green, the pin was located on the front. The green is small and severely tiered from back to front. Any ball hit to the middle will spin back to the front. I pulled a 9 iron (Cleveland XL Launcher) and hit right in the sweet spot. It was right on line and as I was watching it, I was hoping it wasn't too far. It hit right on the slope middle of the green, spun back and disappeared. I was talking to Darryl while watching the ball flight and said, "It has a chance, Darryl...it's spinning back....I think it went in the hole." I was pretty calm and it felt like a slow motion dream. I walked up to the green and sure enough, the ball was in the cup. My first hole-in-1 in 25 years. Happy New Year!
