I was playing in a club major competition at my home club - the London Scottish Golf Club on Wimbledon Common. I hit a lovely 6 iron on the 12th hole (228 yards to a yellow pin). The ball landed softly in the middle of the green, took a couple of small bounces and trickled towards the hole and disappeared. Myself and my playing partners walked to the green, not seeing my ball I took my sand wedge with me in case my ball was off the back, but it wasn’t. So I made the nervous walk towards the hole with the usual hope, and this time… there it was!! The Titleist logo staring up at me. A very surreal moment. My playing partners first words - “That’s an expensive shot!” But I didn’t care. It was worth it. I waited 26 years for that ace, my best day on a golf course. And I won the major on countback!
