Hole #13, a par 3 at Otter Creek Golf Course in Ankeny, faces east towards Iowa's Interstate 35. On the pleasant fall morning of September 16, 2024, a light wind was blowing directly out of the east. The rangefinder showed 126 yards to the pin, but due to the elevation drop and wind in our faces, I knew the Calloway Apex16 PW was the best club choice. A well-balanced swing, crisp contact, and pure flight launched that yellow Titleist Pro V1x directly toward the hole. That beautiful ball flew the pin, landed ten feet beyond the cup, hopped forward, and spun backwards, rolling down the sloped green toward its final resting place. Our foursome, including Aaron Vance, Steven Matzke, and James Sundquist, came together that day to support the Ankeny Police Foundation in its fundraising efforts. As in most fundraising tournaments, pin prizes and hole-in-one prizes were in play- and both were available on hole #13. When my Titleist ProV1x disappeared into the cup, much rejoicing ensued! This was my third Hole-In-One!!!
